I looked at it at the shot show. Just another ranging reticle. Says "calibrated for 6.8 SPC flattop rifles out to 800 meters". Yeah with which load and barrel length etc. You still have to shoot rounds to calibrate for your rifle. You could use it on any caliber. I don't know why they put a caliber specific on it. I like their scopes. Just not the marketing. I could use it on a 17hmr, works the same way just got to test yardages. I have a burris on a little 17hmr I use the balistic plex for this. Same thing just marketed for different calibers. they give you caliber yardage suggestions with the scope, to get you close.

Reticle looks good though!!

 

If it's with a 16 barrel, and a reasonable load it should work. I agree that you can calibrate the other models, and this one will have to be verified with your individual rig. Paulosantos is right, they need a generic milradian or mildot model so shooters can figure out their individual rifles.

$1300 is steep also. Hopefully some of the discounters will get a hold of them so they're not so high. At that price you are also looking at some great variable scopes from other brands.

 

I've got one on order and I'll do a review when it shows up - probably be 6 weeks at least. I'm also getting an EOTECH so we'll see which i like better!

 

Ahh, the eagerly awaited 6.8 Acog has arrived on the market...

I saw it listed on SWFA the other day. They typically have excellent prices, you might be able to save a few bucks buying through them...

Its set up for the 110 and 115 grain loads actually. From the word of the guy who assisted with making it happen,

 

But which loads? Yours, mine, SSA's. Still just hold over points. They could set it up to work with one load, one barrel length, one altitude and so on. The trajectory will be different for each person. First hold over might be 207 for me and 211 or 220 or any thing else for the next person. Each lot of ammo could even be different.

I'm not saying it won't work. It just has to be tested to see where the point of impact is at each hold over. It would work for any caliber out there. I just don't understand why they say they are for a specific caliber.

Almost every scope I have has hold over points. All my Mark 4s have ranging reticles. I use vx3's with varmint reticles. You still have to test them. I have three 223 rifles that all have different hold overs. Same load. But three different guns. All have different velocities when shot through the chronograph. All their trajectories are different.

I love the reticle it looks very good. I would just not call it a specific calibered scope. Great scope!!!

 

The ACOG was originaly designed for the .mil there you have one load you use and one rifle you use for the whole serivce... they work very well for the .mil... the USMC Commandant said the ACOG is the deadliest thing Marines have every attached to thier rifles.... they were getting so many head shots in Falluja and other places they sent in CID to ensure they weren't executing people....

For the mil this is a great piece of gear... I have one that I am trying to find a home for one in 556....

Either way I agree with Paulo that for nommal civi's it would be better to have a chevron and illuminated mil dots so everyone could use the mils for whatever load they want....

 

I wonder if there is any correlations with this ACOG reticle being developed and all the conjecture of the 6.8 possible miltary cocontracts?

 

From the statement that others made it would make a good theory. That would be very helpful

For the same price as this ACOG, I bought a Nightforce 2.5-10x24 Compact, and it does everything you could ever need. Night illumination, Mil-dot reticle, matching midot turrets, and great optics.

But I am glad to see more and more 6.8 products making the market.
