I saw a blurb across Bing about that just a minute ago. I'd be interested in knowing how the shooter voted last month. Portland is a very strong "blue" part of their State. +1 on prayers going out to the victims' families. May the criminal responsible face the music for his behavior.

The world is turning for the worse. People are becoming growingly disturbed and desperate. Such a sad example that evil will always be around and that it is up to yourself to keep you safe. But what causes people to shoot up a mall I just dont know. Pure evil I guess. I hope this guy is dead and waiting for an eternity in Hell.

"Christmas shooting" with kids visiting santa
We are going to have to say goodbye to something. High cap mags will be the first on the list for legislation

after 60 shots a jam, so most of the damage was done.
I see no LOL in this, a supreme court judge on TV admitted that if a case came before them, they may have to do what is in the public good and possibly dismiss the intent of the constitution (my summation of his language)

I hope it was an armed citizen that took him down before SWAT got there.

We are a country of excess. People cause serious harm with legal objects every day (alcohol, cars, blunt objects, free speech) and those things all remain legal. I know it doesn't seem like an apples to apples comparison, but it is. All of these objects are inherently dangerous in the wrong hands.

What is the rate of drunk driving deaths/vehicular homicides compared to murders by guns? How so those compare per capita or per gun/car on the streets?

We have a violent society that values life less and less each day. The tools of how some express that violent culture are not the issue. We must focus on the root cause of restoring respect for life itself. Barring some radical movement on the Supreme Court (entirely possible) there would have to be a hugely significant increase in these senseless crimes before the Supreme Court would go against the long standing precedence, case history, and recent rulings.

Very nicely put. For more evidence into the decay of society. Just look at what happened to the Fox News contributer in Michigan who was assaulted for simply asking protestors to stop tearing down a tent that had women inside. This whole country is going insane.

Anyone think this has anything to do with decades of teaching in schools that humans are merely animals and have no higher Authority to answer to? When an animal's life is more valuable than a human child's, born or unborn, we are in bad shape as a society.

You're touching on a topic I've brought up more than once (on other forums I've haunted).

Take the total number of people killed per year with firearms. Start narrowing some numbers down, JUST to be fair.
How many of them were criminals being taken out by Law Enforcement?
How many of them were criminals being taken out by law abiding private citizens?
How many of them were suicide?
How many of those numbers left were just plain undeserving victims?

Now, compare those numbers (which are published annually by the FBI) to how many lives are snuffed in abortion clinics per year (and, how many of THOSE lives "had it coming"?). I looked it up once (number of annual abortions) and it staggered the mind... deaths by violence due to firearms is but a drop in the bucket in comparison.... but, woe be to he who DARES mention such a comparison, and good luck getting any "air time" to present those numbers to the general public.

I am just stating why the government will never take away alcohol because they wouldn't have anyway to drive home drunk.I was also incorrect about the death of the suspect because it is now being reported that he killed himself.

Thats too bad.

Not that he bought it, but that LE or a CC permited civillian didn't get him.

There was a website that did a comparison of the fatalities in these scenarios and the difference between waiting for police and the intervention of citizen(s). It was a fascinating exercise and showed that several more lives were preserved by civilians intervening.

I wish I could find the website to share it here.

The reason there are "innocent victims" is because these perps are cowards. They don't even rise to the level of predators. That is why they use firearms instead of knives - they're afraid to get too close to their victims because they might get hurt.

Anything that restricts the rights of law-abiding citizens to carry weapons for their protection will only result in more of these "innocent victim" shootings. If someone caps an armed citizen, he was not an "innocent victim," he simply did not have time to defend himself.

On a positive note, it looks like Illinois will have to get creative again to prevent concealed carry.

RIP to the victims. Just throwing my two cents in and would like to say that most of these shooting seem always to be in "gun free zones". It seems even the crazies know better than to go into a police station or a gun show and start plinking away.

This subject hits close to home for me,because it is close to my home. Where this happened is only 7 miles from my home. As I am very sorry for the innocent victims and their families, I am also greatful, as my daughter and my three month old granddaughter were supposed to be there. Luckily they were held up at another appointment. Even if they weren't injured, (thank the lord) just being there had to have been traumatic and would change a person for life. BTW I am Glad he was killed as I can't stand too see these monsters plea bargain and get life in prison. Hot showers TV three square meals a day is no punishment for some of these monsters and sick f****s!

I still haven't forgiven the Prosecutor's Office in these parts for allowing Gary Ridgeway to plea bargin out of the Death Penalty (Green River Serial Killer).

More recently... I learned that Israel Kies killed himself in jail a couple of weeks ago. He was the turd who kidnapped/killed the drive-up cofffe stand barista in Anchorage, AK last winter. They found her body in a partially frozen lake in Alaska... and arrested his sorry a$$ in Texas (traffic stop) I believe. Throw him in the dump and let the scavengers feed off his corpse.

I hear ya, Ratdog. I'm still pissed off about that sick f***k Ward Weaver who killed those two young girls here in Oregon City. He put one in the freezer and repeatly thawed her out and had his way with her body. Had him nailed to the wall and all he got was life. What the HELL?

AR 15 or not, one good shot from a concealed carried pistol could have ended this.

It's becoming so disturbing to see predators like this praying on innocent, defensless people, and then killing themselves. I just don't understand that sick mentality. Why would you want to hurt random innocents because you're a sick piece of sh*t? Why not just do us all a favor and off yourself, then leave the rest of us alone? Why murder defensless people? I'm tired of it...
