Bufer tubes. Mil Spec = 1.14, Commerical = 1.17. Both of mine are 1.15?

I've been wanting to add a B5 sopmod on my new build after shooting an LMT with one a few weeks ago. I understand they fit military buffer tubes (which should be 1.14 o.d.).

So, i broke out the calipers and tested the two I have. Both measure 1.15 around the tube. One is directly from Stag and one was part of a build kit i purchased. I would presume these to be commercial tubes.

Will the B5 fit one of those or should I just spring for a true mil spec tube?

Any thoughts?

Thanks

A mil spec tube will be squared off at the butt end and a commercial has a bit of an angle to it. Not sure what you got there. My mil spec tubes measure 1.14" measuring just behind the threaded area. If yours are 1.15 and squared off at the end I would say they are mil spec.

I have a tube from BCM and B5 enhanced stock and it fits very very tightly. I first didn't like it but I can't see ever having a loosely fitting stock ever again. Well back to the topic. If your tube is slightly thicker that mil-spec your going have a hard time getting it on and even harder time adjusting it. I'll measure my buffer tube in a minute and get you the diameter

Commercial tube or milspec?

I can see no visible angle at the back of the tubes. 5 degrees isn't much so I'm not sure if I would notice it.

Its milspec I got 1.140 behind the threads around 1.145 on the center and 1.148 on the rear. Kind of weird and I think my measurements might be off. I measure a cheap 20$ tube I got from eBay that I messed up and measured around 1.143 and the B5 fitted looser with tiny bit of wobble on it. I think it should fit just fine on your rifle.

Based on the illustrations the Mils-Spec dimension of 1.148" is pretty darn close to 1.15". Depends on what type of measuring device is being used,ie; accurate to .001, and how the individual is doing the measurement. My SWAG says the OP has a Mil-Spec tube.

Not true on the angle part....I have a utg pro commercial and it is square not angled.. the real way to find out is the diameter.

The best plan is to buy a quality brand name tube from a reputable vendor.

There are differences between tubes that go beyond outside diameter.

IMO, $35 is well worth it.

You know I always like to chime in randomly with useless comments.

Here's my take on this: I'd really like to smack the whoever that came up with this commercial is different than mil-spec buffer tube crap. Seriously. Like we really needed to make things more complicated for people?!?!?$@#??!

From my my understanding it was so they could be exported since they were not on military guns, but I could be wrong.

The the one person who I think should be smacked in the person who came up with the idea of making 45ACP with small primers.
