I was just wondering if anyone has any experience with YHM Diamond rifles or more specifically, their diamond fluted AR barrels? I love the way the diamond fluting looks, I just want to know if they are accurate for a chrome lined barrel. I am building another SHTF gun and think this looks like a great choice. Any feedback would be great. Thanks as always...

YHM makes pretty good products for the price. They have a pretty good reputation for value for the dollar. Their AR's look pretty good, and the diamond fluting is definitely sharp. They have lots of YHM features and accessories for the price. I've seen them discounted at gun shows so you might save some dough if you find one at a local gun show.

They have both 1:9 and 1:7 twists. If you plan to shoot the heavier 75 or 77 grain bullets, you probably want the 1:7.

If you buy one, just check the staking on the carrier key and you're probably good to go.

Look at the hot new Daniel Defense M4 carbines. They are a little more than the YHM rifles, but have heavier duty Daniel Defense accessories. They have milspec features like their barrels. Impressive first offerings from Daniel Defense.

I've also seen some MP 15T's from SW discounted into that price range at gun shows. The SW has a Troy rail and Troy back up iron sights which are a nice accessories.

Colt 6920's without the railed handguards are also coming back down in price and they are the real deal milspec wise, except for the 16" barrel for civilians versus the military's 14.5 inch barrel and full auto selector.

I've held the YHM models, and they seem put together well and the price was definitely reasonable for the included options. I always look around in the same price range to see what other brands have also, but you're a good shopper and probably have already had your hands on some of these.

The Saxet gun show is this weekend... That's kinda why I was asking...

Yep you're right... I've held 'em all but the Daniel Defense... I was most impressed by the Colts... Go figure  They just have that Colt feel about them that makes them great... But the gun is already 75% complete... I just need a barrel, bolt, and LPK, which is why I was curious about the YHM barrels. Thanks as always Art... You're quite helpful...

You're welcome. You may want to PM Constructor and ask him about his new 5.56 barrels coming. They'll be high tech 5.56 goodness. Plus you could get one of his new 9310 bolts which sound promising. He's putting a lot of effort into these new barrels and bolts.

Don't get me wrong, the YHM barrels should work well for you too. They're chrome lined, good specs, and a decent company.

Alright... Went to the gun show... They had the barrel... Couldn't resist... Bought it for $150 which I think is a helluva deal considering everything... This gun is coming along great... Now its off to ADCO for some feedramp extensions... After that, all I need is the Timney and a good BCG (which is going to be a Young NM) Here are a few pics...

Damn... They are HUGE!!! Sorry if this is breaking forum rules or anything... And BTW I went with the 1/9 twist as I will be shooting bullets in the 55-65gr. range...

What's huge? The pics? They are a little large but you're okay.

By the way, that's going to be a nice rifle when you're finished. Have you found your LPK yet?

I think YHM hit a home run with the diamond fluting. The Diamond series handguards look good too.

Yep... Got it at the gun show too... I didn't feel like waiting for the CMMGs to come in, so I bought a RRA LPK for $60... I figured if I'm not even using the pivot/takedown pins, the trigger assembly, or the grip... That an LPK doesn't really matter...

The 6.8 is identical... Except it has the rifle length YHM diamond quad... The shipper sent me the wrong phantom hider... It's supposed to be the 5C2 with the bezeled front...

Is the barrel new, because if so, sounds like you got a good deal. Is that a Diamond handguard? Only reason I ask is that it looks like it has a gap between the receiver rail and the handguard rail and I thought it was suposed to have a monolithic look to it.

Yep barrel is brand new... Just pulled it out of the plastic wrap... And yes, there is actually no gap at all between the upper and handguard... I just slapped it together for pics and the barrel nut is not all the way tight... When everything is cinched tight, there is a "gapless" transition between the two... It looks very good...
