Yet another 308 boar.

Yet another 308 bullet test subject. I believe no 11. He was a stout one. Heart girth measurement was 47". Puts him in the 270 pound range. Both the farmer and me had game cam photos of a lone boar during the wee hours of the night. He got into the freshly planted peanuts after it quit raining around 3:30 am Friday morning. Setup Friday night on the peanut field and watched deer all night. Then just a little after midnight he finally shows. Closed the distance then he started heading my way. Popped him at 112 yards. DRT.

PS: I will be loading 6.8 spcii real soon now. lol

A perfect picture of what a hog can do in a short amount of time to destroy crops. Did the farmer pay you?
No pay but all the hogs I can shoot and have a blast doing it.

What bullet were you using?
It's a prototype 308 cal a buddy gave me to test on hogs. I can't reveal anything about them until they have been officially released.

In my estimation they are the Hammer of Thor on hogs.

So when you say loading 6.8 soon is this with new bullet as well?
No just Hornady 120 SST. I got everything to load them but have been distracted by the 308. I did complete a ladder test. Now to load and shoot some test groups.

Almost any bullet can make an effective neck/spine shot. If this new bullet is a Hammer of Thor on hogs, then give it a true test of capabilities. A Texas Heart shot will be more defining of the title.
True. I shot a couple large boars behind/in the shoulder a la deer shot and I was extremely impressed with the performance. Will these bullets be without fault? No, none are, but they don't give me any reason as of yet to not have confidence in their capabilities.

The first boar I shot with the new 308 bullet I was still in shoot until it stops moving mode having been conditioned by the Hornady 100 CX bullets to do so. (Notice I didn't mention the 6.8 as a contributing factor to that lack of performance conditioning. :) )

This was the second boar I shot with the test 308 bullets and the one that gave the Hammer of Thor moniker. On this boar, 49" HG brute, he acted like he was hurt, running via an odd gait and speed, even with a less than ideal shot. Since there was at least 300 yards to cover, I let him go without followup shots. He piled up in less than 100 yards if that far. Are these bullets the be-all-end-all bullets? No but I'm sure liking how they perform in the 308 - tried and true 308 load too. Too bad they don't produce them in 6.8.

I'm not knocking the 6.8 as I'm a dyed in the wool 270 guy. I'm a rifleman first and expect of myself and components the best performance on game. Right now I'm riding that wave and having a blast doing it.
