I'm looking into building a 6.8spc SHTF carbine. I already have a bushmaster carbon15 i like alot however, I have to bug to get something with a little bit more punch and accurate out two 300 or so yards. I currently am leaning toward the XCR because of the good things I've heard about it, but I like the AR platform because off all the things you can do to it (but I don't want my collection to get too ar heavy :p ). Any suggestions one way or another?

If your looking for an excellant 6.8, then the GPU may be for you. Now with a SHTF concept in mind, ya may want to really consider the RobArms rifle. Then you can just buy the barrel, bolt, and mag for each of .223, 6.8 and 7.62X39. The .223 and 7.62 would be failry prevalant in a SHTF scenario.

Double check to make sure RA has the SPC II, 1:11 barrels available. Their forum indicated they were going to switch to SPC II and 1:11, but their website still says 1:10 twist. If you're spending the money, make sure you get the best specs which would be SPC II, and 1:11 twist.

ADDAX has been using WOA SPC II and 1:11 barrels in their 6.8 GPU's which offers better specs for working with higher performance ammo. I think ADDAX has a new upper coming out you may be interested in also.

Both should serve you well. The RA does offer a quick change caliber conversion if that's something you think you'd like to have.

I have 2 XCRs and 2 GP LWRCs....the 2 XCRs are 5.56 w/ one having a 6.8 conversion (SPC II, 4 groove, 1:10 twist.....it'll be an SBR.....I'm waiting on the 1:11 twist bbls for the 2nd XCR which will be more of an SPR build).

The LWRC in 6.8 is a 1:10 SPCII, 6 groove.

I can't decide which I'd take if SHTF. The XCR is more robust from the bolt/piston/carrier set up and from simplicity standpoints. I think it will be more rugged overall. I have spare parts kits for both the XCRs and the LWRCs, but I have a feeling the XCRs will hold up better.

The LWRC 6.8 is super accurate and is noticeably lighter weight.

I think I'd go with my XCR if I had to pick just one, but I don't think you could go wrong with a piston AR either.

Art, to which forum are you referring? I'm pretty much sold on the XCR so I'd like to see for myself about the new twist rate.
H w/ AR15Performance passed on info from Robinson that they were looking into the 11 twist for their 6.8's to replace the SPC II 1:10.

Then while visiting Robinson's XCR forum, there was a post from Robarms the newer 6.8 XCR barrels were going to be SPC II, and 1:11.

If I can find it again, I'll post a link.

If you're about to pull the trigger (I love puns) on the XCR you may call them directly for more info. Having an XCR and a couple caliber kits would be a cool setup.
