Sorry, but I just bought a bunch a few weeks back and now the cost is 11 bucks more per hundred. Is this demand, supply or the Obama's gotta buy me a new kitchen tax. Looks like I might need a bulk brass buy stimulus package.

Well crap. It was still 40ish a day or two ago. And now looking around it seems everyone is completely out of stock.

Midway's price on SSA brass jumped to 62 bucks...I am in arteacher's boat, I may have to dump my 6.8 soon. :(

Hmmm....

Anyone else notice that the larger 308 brass is now cheaper than the smaller 6.8 cases? That completely eliminates the "cost of brass has gone up" excuse in my book.

Seriously -- I've watched the 6.8 brass go up by what, 75% over the past 12 months? First the brass was hard to find in stock, now it costs over $500 for 1,000 cases... IMO, if this keeps up a lot of progress made on the 6.8 platform will go away as people are turned off.

Considering that the price of copper has plummeted, I have to say WTF? I was barely able to justify 40-45c/rd new brass, now not so much.
I agree. Copper is at 1/3 of its price a year ago and zinc it at 1/2 of a year ago. There must be some hellacious margins being made at the moment on ammo brass. SSA went up 25% and Midway has SSA brass marked up another 20%.

Sent an e-mail asking why no response yet. You know it doesn't seem that they raised the price of the ammo itself. (ooops hope I didn't give anyone idea's)

Well, I was getting ready to order some brass from them, but now I am not sure. I wish I had gotten it a couple days ago. Currently if you buy their cheaper loadings it is just about cheaper to buy the loaded ammo to get the brass then it is to buy brass, bullets etc...

I'm worried too that ammo prices are going to follow shortly. That would be a shame.

Well, I guess it still justifies my buying up all the Remington LP brass whenever I can find it. I've got 10 bags of 50 for $13 each just a couple months ago...so, even if I do only get 4 or 5 loads out of this "worst" brass, I've really racked in some value. I have CCI#34 LR primers on hand for my 30-06 anyway, so, it's not like I am stocking anything new, just having choices. And, I got another 5 bags of 100 for $33.50 each earlier this year.

The only "cheap" SSA I have is the 500 or so rounds of loaded/fired (roughly $83.99 per 100). Empty 100 SSA brass is almost that.

i was about to buy more brass but now i may hold off. Where does brass/copper raw material come from anyways? China? Nevada mines?
ah here's some info: http://minerals.usgs.gov/minerals/pubs/commodity/copper/mcs-2009-coppe.pdf

I ran across this in another thread:
We are trying to keep our prices down but brass cost went up 15% this last week alone. Thank god when made a large purchase before it happened.

Keep the faith and happy shooting until they take our rights away.

Ok why raise the price if you got it at a cheaper price. If anything it would give a good selling point on the current stock of brass that they got at a lower price. If they told me that they only have a certain amount of stock at a lower price buy NOW as the next batch will be going up, I would be buying. "Thank God" for you but not for us the consumer. Knowing that from what you guys have said in this post and others, things like this will only agitate future customers and not bring them in. (please note Im not trying to be rude or mean and sorry if that came off that way)

To be honest I don't understand the price increases in brass. One of the main reasons I went back to the .223 for plinking was because of the lack of cheap bullets. The good thing about the 6.8 SPC was the somewhat affordable brass, so this makes little sense.

This just sucks. Plain and simple. The people I've turned on to the 6.8spc have all come to the cartridge knowing that reloading is the only way to do it affordably. Now that is going away.

Massive lay offs, stock market down, economy down, housing market down, metal prices down --- doesn't make sense to me. IIRC the quote from Art about holding prices was when prices were increasing several months ago. I was also getting ready to order another 1000 myself but now will hold off. The last order of 500 I received was short 2 and had 2 BAD cases. I just blew it off at the time but now I'm pissed about it. The 6.8 is growing rapidly so maybe someone like Starline will start making it and give SSA some competition. I only pay $0.65 for 458 SOCOM brass and can be justified due to not as many users. I can now shoot a 300 grain HP for only a few cents more than a 90g TNT

Holy Crap!!!!
I've been looking at the brass and was going to pickup a couple hundred after I got my barrel.

I just went and looked! It wasn't that much a couple days ago. I'm not going to pay that kinda price for brass.

I'll buy the ammo and shoot it. Heck for 100rds loaded it''s around $100 so what the heck.

Sure doesn't make me want to invest in a new cartridge right now.

+2 on Starline. We should contact them. I know on AR15.com we almost had them to make 300whisper brass, but there was royalty issues with Whisper if I remember right. We should have no problems with them for 6.8SPC since there is a lot more interest.
