Can anyone tell me what kind of sight is on the SR-16 CARBINE in the link below?
I figure it's a KAC but I can't seem to find it on their site other than on that rifle.
So...I guess I'm really looking for a KAC part # for it. Anyone?

It's a KAC folding front sight & gas block. Pretty rare, as all the KAC snobs are happy to point out when they get their hands on one. They do pop up from time to time but are typically more expensive due to collector value than the part would actually merit.

Well I guess if I'll never be able to find the KAC unit, I'm going to have to settle for this...

What's the difference between the cross bolt and taper pin retaining systems? Which one is more secure...if either?

I think they only make the cross bolt one like the picture above. You can always get it pinned.

There are several threads around that ask which is more secure. By the looks of things pinning would be the most secure, followed by set screws set in a dimpled barrel, leaving cross bolt as the least secure.

Earlier I read a thread where a comment was made about a set screw gas block being knocked out of alignment repeatedly if I understood correctly and a cross bolt would probably be the same way. As paulo says you can always get it drilled and pinned.

ADCO does drilling & pinning for $35+/-. One pin on that block would be sufficient.
