What bullet would you recommend for very good penetration that also causes quite a bit of damage?
Hey texag2010 try here as paulasantos did a very nice job on "choosing a bullet" data chart.

It all depends on the purpose you want.

both the TSX's do a very good job at penetration but expansion could be a problem on lighter skin game.. all 6.8 rounds except maybe the varmint gets 13 inches of pentration in ballistic gel

I used the tipped 110g TSX
even on thin skinned whitetails it does a amazing job
caliber sized entrance would, fist sized cavoty and quarter sized exit wound
hogs or deer, don't matter
love it!

I will be using my 6.8 primarily for wild hogs so penetration is key. The corbon looks to be a little expensive for hogs so according to the chart provided the Hornady 110 grain BTHP is my best choice. My biggest concern is a getting a bullet with great penetration that will stay together enough for a good exit wound. Is the Hornady 110 grain BTHP the right bullet for the job?

It is the toughest BTHP bullet out there for the SPC (not including the Barnes bullets). It may actually work pretty well. I say try it out and see how it works.

For hogs from experience the Pro Hunter, Hrdy BTHP, AccuBond, TTSX, TSX both, 130 speer or seirra. GS 80 HV. They will all drop hogs with shoulder shots. The best: Accubond, TTSX, TSX, 80 HV GS in no particular order. There is also a new hunting combat bullet do out very soon that will definitely change the bullet selection seen  :D It may actually turn out to be the ideal 6.8 combat round. I have taken hogs up to 375 with all but the accubond but i know its a winner. C took a 5x5 ELK with one at almost 400 yards so hog will not be an issue. Any hunting round will work only the varmint rounds are an issue. Hell they are killing them without issue with the 5.56 and the 6.8 even with most bullets is a big step up.

I dont know if Tim is talking about the 100 grain accubond Art mentioned some where or another round....

I think the 100 grain area is perfect for this caliber....

And we have a winner.

The 100 gr accubond I think will turn out to be one of the best all around bullets for all uses.

It will have a high BC for its weight if it follows the typical accubond shape. It has a weight that will increase vel probably 100 FPS over a 110. It should be slightly shorter than the 110 version although it will work either way but if shorter it has more room for powder and OAL changes. Basically the shape of a TNT with a tip and BT and the little bit of extra weight that adds. It is bonded for use thru harder targets yet with its poly tip and deep pocket should expand very well. Becasue of the decreased weight it should not over penetrate as much as the 110 version. It is basically the middle ground from the super light 85 and the 110 with more vel than 110 with higher BC than 85-90s. This of course is all SWAG based on the 110 models and general construction of the ACs but I really think this area is a sweet spot for all around use. Not a plinking round like the SSA made 90BTHP which I still think maybe a very good perf as well but the AC will be a premium line bullet like the 85 TSX.

There are actually a number of new bullets on the slate for the 6.8. Ones for hunting, LR, plinking.

What I like about the 100 Gr. bullets is that any powder will work. The 85-90 Gr. bullets like the fast powders such as H4198. The 110-115 Gr. bullets like the slower powders like H32. But the 100 Gr. bullets will work with any of them.
