But that only works with a .223 barrel, right? I have a 6.8 Barrel.
DO NOT TRY TO UTILYZE YOUR 6.8 BARREL AS A .22 CONVERSION!! Ok. If you want a cheap ciener conversion, or a Spikes conversion, you need a .223 barrel as a minimum. If you tried to use the 6.8, the .22 bullet would bounce off the walls of the barrel, would not hit the broad side of a barn at 20 feet, and would possible damage your barrel. Also, those conversion are made for the bolt carrier group to fit inside the barrels .223 chamber, which isnt t the same as a 6.8 chamber, would be bad news.

You best option is to buy a cheap 223 upper and do the conversion, or buy a dedicated .22 LR upper from spikes

"Dedicated" upper is the way to go! 8)

If you have either an "old" upper, or ability to re-build one with a new or really old surplus barrel that's another "conversion" path but .22LR isn't 5.56/.223, nor is it particularly good in a 1 in 9 or faster twist barrel... Truth is a Spike's dedicated upper or others are not a lot more money than a conversion kit, plus you'll have the correct twist (1 in 14 as I recall) with a "factory set" rig.

You'll also actually enjoy shooting 50 and 100+ yards for a lifetime vs. a compromise you hate... The only real problems other than "REM Golden Bullets" I've heard of are with certain "notched" hammer light strikes, but that's easily corrected by changing back to a standard GI hammer.

My "personal opinion" is you're already running a lower that's likely worth more than a bare 10/22, so why not treat it as such? The "training" opportunity to use like-equipment, ENJOY shooting it, plus get an accurate .22LR while saving a bunch of bucks on .223/5.56 just makes sense to me... YMMV.

I have a couple Spike's with Lothar-Walther barrels that are pretty amazing. I think I've posted this before, but this was a sight-in target dealing with the CO December winds/lack of daylight/iron sights... Not to mention on the tail-end of a very "high stress" period. (I currently work in Missile Defense... )

Eventually, I'm going back with time and an decent optic, so I'm guessing about 1.5-3.0 MOA out of a .22LR out to 100 yards. (Certainly good enough to "train" CQB, hit a rabbit/steel target, and "plink" for fun/bring new folks to the range... These rifles saved me at least $500 the first time I took my Canadian daughter-in-law out!

OK, one's my Canuck "DIL" and one's my 10-year cancer-surviving wife (pretty proud of both):

babirl... You have reason to be proud of your DIL and your wife. Gals that will go shooting with you are special. :)

PS - Spike's 22LR uppers look good to me.

+1, I am drooling over the thought of a dedicated 22 upper but unfortunately, there's no money for it in the budget! :|

Well, I think I may get a Spike's dedicated .22LR with a 16 inch barrel and the carbine length handguard.

Does anyone know a lot about these? Can I just slap it on my lower and go shoot? Or do I need other parts? Does it come with a new buffer spring that is more suitable to a .22LR?

Is there anything else I should know? The Spike's website doesn't have a whole lot of detail...

Just from what I have read so far all you would need would be the mags for it. Don't knowmuch about the buffer and spring though.

MAybe Cold wll chime in here, I know he did a review of their .22 upper for Tacticalgunfan.com a few months ago. I think with the spikes .22 uppers you dont even need a buffer, spring or buffer tube. I know they make .22 pistols with a receiver end plate so no stock is necessary

Bump.

Does anyone else have any input or knowledge to share on the Spike's dedicated .22LR upper?

Thanks!
