I bought a CED with the IR screen upgrade and all that stuff when I started ordering my reloading supplies. I needed to wait on a bipod and yesterday the GF was down south and hit the local walmart for me on the way back. (the closest walmart is about a 45 minute drive so I dont go unless I have a real reason) Anyways I figured I would test some ammo out of my 16 inch MK68 from AR performance.

It was so windy I couldnt get the target to stay on the stand so I just shot each round through the chrono into a berm. The chrono was about 12 feet from my shooting position. They are all in FPS and the average temp is 75 or so.

Now I have heard how SSA has changed the combat to the tac and lowered the velocity ect ect so I figured I would test an old lot of SSA combat in the brown box, a New lot of the SSA CL that I had and the newest lot of SSA Tac loading:

So it doesnt look like at least for the OTM there isnt much difference between old Combat and new Tac load... I dont have any normal SSA OTM loads to compare however....

Wow wonder why everyone has been working so hard to correct that screw up?

I know I should of shot 10 rounds per string but 5 seemed okay until i got home....
Is there anything else anyone wants tested?

Update:
As requested I went and shot the lighter grain offerings I have from SSA I was kinda surprised with the results..... All rounds were fired from my MK68 (16 inch barrel) and the chrono was still about 4 paces away the wind was giving me some errors but I got 5 shots of each after a while....

Looks like we dont need a combat load if we can keep these velocities up..... For some reason these rounds wanted to short stroke in my rifle, I dont know if thye powder changed or what but something was weird.

I was surprised how slow this round is going compared to the older 90 grain varmint round...
All of the 90's gave me slight issues with not locking back all the way or Short stroking.

There you guys go, let me know if you want any more info. I could do the pro hunters and the 110 accubonds....

I forgot I had one box of none combat loaded pro hunters and I should of tried those out but I didnt see them till I came back from the range. I may do it another day though.

Looks like the Hornady may not be loaded as weakly as some around here are saying. Not saying it is super accurate or anything but the velocities for a SAAMI round don't look bad.

I dont have much experience with it yet. This was recommended by H I believe.... either way I did have one error to register I dont know what happened but it probably had something to do with the wind. It was honestly blowing the chrono around a little I was surprised it was reading anything

I can I have the 85's (old combat and new load) and the 90's varmiter (copmbat and none combat) and the new TNT's....

I really want to get one of those. I have a couple of questions though that popped up after reading the instructions for that chrono and seeing comments about people shooting theirs...

1) Do I understand correctly that you shoot OVER the skyscreens? That is what the instructions sound like but later is says THROUGH the screens. Confused there.

2) How close to the screens do you have to place the shot? Just wondering since I seem to see a lot of folks with all kinds of chronos talking about shooting theirs.

you shoot through the screens it says you want to shoot 2-3 inches from the top of the screen. People shoot them becuase the scope and the bore hieght are different. You just need to be careful I guess. Not saying I wont end up shooting mine one of these days

This is a great reference Adam,
because whatever the variables, these were all tested in the same gun, same conditions.
So while the absolute numbers may vary for others,
the RELATIVE differences should stay the same.

Since you offered,
what are the new 110 Accubonds at?

Art says 2600 out of 16" ( is that in his Xtreme ? )
That would put them just as fast as the 100 grain.

Great report;

Our new 90 TNT's are at 2,900 FPS and you just got to love those 85 grainers at over 3,000 FPS. Short stroking with the 85's hummm. No one that I know had that problem before, our new powder may help you out slightly different burn rate.

Its hard to push the 110 grain Nosler's over 2,600 FPS safely, playing with some ideas.

Great report Marinesg.

To throw in my .2 cents on the chrony. You shoot through the screens maki=g sure that the difference between your rifle barrel and scope is accounted for in height usually shoot about 3" higher than you think so as not to put a bullet through the body. the second thing is to shoot through the center of the unit OVER the sensors. that is what reads the bullet as it passes through both sensors under the screens. Hopefully that helps make it a little more clearer. (probably as clear as mud right?)

This is quite true. And HTR has the pictures to prove it when I shot mine at his ranch. And also of Constructors when he shot HTR's at his ranch
I did speak fom experience in my post but the funny thing is I did not shoot the body I nailed one of the posts. The back screen must have flown 10' up and 15' to the side I was looking for some coat hangers and tried again with the chrono but it cracked the back sensor and so far has not worked.

Thanks for all the valuable information. I would like to see some chrono info on the SSA 110gr ProHunters. That is what I will be mainly shooting in my MK68. All I have now are the commercial loads but would like to get the tactical loads when they become available again.
