I live in North East Tx and hunt pigs every weekend. I normally harvest 1 or 2 everytime I go. My family has practically been living on pig meat since November. Its amazing what u can do with a meat grinder. Some pigs were taking during the day but most have been at night while someone held a light or under a full moon. I've ordered a 6.8 Xtreme upper and can't wait to unleash constructors awesome work on a razorback. I'm looking for a light to mount on my new upper. I'm not looking to light up out to 200 yards since most of my shots are 75 and under. Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks.

It depends on how much dinero ($) do you want to spend, and do you use magnification in your optics or iron sights? A good rifle scope can help in low light spot lighting.

You can go inexpensive with a Surefire G2 LED mounted in a Viking Tactics light mount on your railed forend. You get 80 lumens which may not light up the pigs much at 75 yards unless you have a good scope that picks up light really well. Or you can buy hot rodded Surefire lights that boost lumens to 150-250 sometimes. That may be a step in the right direction without spending a fortune on even more powerful weapons lights.

I will definetly be using mid to low power optics on my new upper but am still in the process of deciding what scope I want. Thanks for the advice I never knew you could have a G2 that bright that would run for 2+ hours. This is a definite must for my AR.

Take a look at the TexasBoars "DDT" light "www.texasboars.com". I choose the "DDT" scope light and it is by far the best scope light I have ever used. Very ruggedly built and all you have to do is to attach it to your rail with no alignment to worry about. I have used cheaper lights that needed alignment every time you placed it on your gun and they also had a tendency to fall apart. The "DDT" scope light will produce enough light to safely shoot to 100+ yards, I took a **** at about 110 yards. They have a version that is made to be used on a bow or rifle that is made for shorter ranges. They also have feeder lights that you can set up permanently or used as portable lights. I am not affiliated with TexasBoars but I own a feeder light and the DDT scope light and am very impressed with their performance, quality and ruggedness.

What kind of batteries run this light? I've seen one and it looked like alot of wires to deal with.

LaRue offset tactical flashlight mount and the LED E2D Defender at 110 lumens. I also have a MX962 Surefire wesponlight, but it costs some jack. That LED E2D is great: got 5 lumens for stalking, and then 110 beam when you're ready to light em up. Look it up man, I love that light, i have it with me everywhere i go.

If you're interested in going the less-expensive route the G2 can be upgraded with a P91 (IIRC) lamp module. Something like 120 lumens--the battery life goes down to about 20 minutes, but even that rig and a bunch of pairs of batteries might end up being cheaper than other 100+lumen options.

I wonder about the Sig StopLite--anybody try one of those? I see them for $200-$300 and wonder if they'd work really well for this sort of application.

I have a P91 in an older 6z combat light and you're right, it is an improvement. But it's not shock proof. I dropped one when I needed it and ended up in the dark. Plus I just can't settle on the 20 minutes of battery life even if I'm doing occasional offs and ons while varmint hunting or checking things out at night. Personally, I'm switching to LED's in my three Surefire flashlights. I bought a 6P LED and it's a great light. If I take my G2 and add one of the super high output LED's like from TNVC or Brightflashlights, I can increase my performance and still have some decent battery life.

I don't know anything about the Sig StopLite beyond the full page ads they've put in magazines lately.

I'm looking up the Texas Boars lights to check them out too.

Sniperhill - You can use any battery setup you want from 12 - 24 volts. TexasBoars sells a small 12 volt that can be attached to your rifle using supplied velcro. TexasBoars also sells a tactical switch (pressure sensitive) with plugs to hook to the 12 volt battery and the DDT light. The DDT uses a common two wire marine plug, so you can tailor a connection cord to suit your needs (i.e. small portable battery, car battery, cigarette plug, short or long length).

I used to do a lot of pig hunting in the Sulfur river basin just outside of Sugar Hill. We used to make quite a few trips over there to get the little sausage links.

You should not use the E2D LED for a weapon light. The LED head is a dual output and may switch to low during recoil per Surefire.

The G2 LED is a good choice for not too much $$$. If you decide you need more lumens it is a great flashlight to keep in your glove box.

I've hunted the Sulfur river many times. Its not far from where I live. Lots of pigs out there.

I know, that's why i like it. you can walk around at night with ease on 5 lumens, then switch to 110. I guess if you kept your thumb off of it when firing you wouldn't switch the setting, unless it's just a piece of shit and switches from the recoil itself. All i know is that it's compact, handy, and very bright on 110. If not the E2D LED, then go with the 6P LEd at 80 Lumens. It all depends on how much he wants. Get a Mx962 and put a 225 bulb in it if you want some serious power. But as far as time consuming, stick with a simple LED set up. Surefires LED lights have great runtime. whatever floats your boat man. I'm just telling you that the E2D LED is awsome.
