I am debating making my next build a pistol build. What kind of velocity loss do you get when you get down to a 10-12 inch barrel? Is there anything else I should know about pistol builds other than getting the stamped lower and no stock?

You generally loose 25 FPS for every 1" of barrel, so from a 16" to a 10" barrel, you will loose approximately 150-200 FPS.

For punching paper it will be fun. For HD, ammo that will still expand or fragment at those reduced velocities. Something like a Ballistic Tip or a Soft Point. Just keep in mind that the Ballistic Tip bullets are good against soft targets, but not good against barriers.

I have a 10.3" LWRC 5.56 carbine that averages 2800 fps with LC M193 ball and a little over 2500 fps with 62gr Federal Tactical. If you use soft points, a 10.5" barrel will do what you want.
