Was just about to buy a 68 upper from ironworks and just learned they closed down. Anyone know where I can get or build up a good quality 6.8 upper for a hunting rifle?

If you go under Vendors on this forum, Bison Armory, they have a 2017 Scratch And Dent sale with two 6.8 Upper options on there for you at a very good price.

Or build your own with a barrel from AR Performance (which are the barrels that IWT used)

If you scroll down the page you will see the stag 7H, 20.77" for $575. I got mine from them and I'm pleased. They also have the left handed for another $25.

1:7 is intended/optimized for subsonic suppressed loads. Stick with 1:11

There is not much point in a subsonic round unless shooting suppressed in my opinion. The round still makes enough noise to scare the game you are hunting. Most of the time they don't know which direction the noise came from. Subsonic just means no sonic crack or boom as some call it. I would go with the 1:11 twist and use standard hunting rounds.
