My wife does not like to watch anything with violence. But she likes Russell Crowe. We watched this movie last night and I have to say, Russell plays a very convincing psycho. I was surprised at the violence. Of course, the movie was very much a Hollywood movie, meaning nobody but NOBODY carried a gun except the cops, who were most of the time, too late to catch the killer on his rampage. In case you haven’t seen it, it starts out as a jealous, hurt man whose wife left him. He does some very bad stuff (trying not to spoil anything), then zones out in front of a red light that turned green. A young lady, in a big hurry, gets stuck behind him (she’s also having a bad day) and lays on the horn, then drives around him rudely. He becomes “unhinged”; just loses all control of himself and cracks.
Besides the fact that the woman trying to get away from him makes 200 mistakes a minute, there are some very grueling and riveting scenes that I think everyone should watch. The man is big, out of his head and does not care about who might see what. He goes around harming (yes, killing, actually) everyone she knows. What is so sick is how he does it while everyone else just sits and stares, doing absolutely nothing. My wife and i both agreed how ludicrous it is. Yet, I believe there is a lot of truth in it..... people who are shocked at extreme violence unable to move.
By the end of the movie, I could not believe anyone watching would ever want to leave home again without a firearm. The circumstances hit home pretty hard.
