I have 1200 for a build, my first.
I plan on using it for deer out to 300 yards in the late season and 100 yrd range play.

A few of my Issac Walton League members have said our range should have a caliber maximum ( Gun control members ?), so this prompt me to a 6.8. I reload and shoot an M700 30-06 (Greek ammo Yeah), had planed for an elk hunt in the future.

Years ago I hated scopes but now love em and plan on scopeing it.
I live an hour away from Brownells.
Your input would be valuable I know very little about AR's.

With 1200 for a build, I would point ya to anyone on the chart with an A or B rating. make sure the barrel has a long leade chamber (SPCII or DMr) and at least a 1:11 or 1:12 twist.

My uppeper is an Xtreme from Titan armory, but AR15Performance and Bison seem to make decent uppers for the price.

Welcome aboard. Is that $1200 for the whole AR or just the upper? What barrel length and are you looking for a chrome lined or SS barrel?

$1200 for all. I like to shoot so chrome lined might be in order, I believe these last longer than SS.

I am leaning to 130 grain bullet so maybe a 1:10 or 1:11 twist. Whats your thoughts on this?

16 or 18 inch for barrel length.

There are only 1 or 2 bullets that will work in a mag at 130 grains, and that only if you reload. Most deer hunters use 110 gr projectiles for the added velocity

If all you are building it for is hunting, the stag Model 7 is a pretty good rifle. Has a 2 stage trigger and a free floated forarm. The only downside to the stag is the lack of M4 feedramps and the gas length. The gas length can be worked around the the M4 feedramps are pretty much required. So be prepared to dremel them in yourself or send your upper to a good gunsmith to have them do it. ADCO charges 15 bucks for the M4 ramps, but gotta pay shipping to an from on the upper.

the stag 7 has rifle length gas and is good to go there as well. The feedramps are a must, I had them done on my model 7. For the price of the model 7, you could build your own lower (easy to do) and buy a nice upper from arperformance or titan armory.
Parts for the lower are available now. You wont regret building your own rifle. If you feel confident in building then just buy the barrel from one of the above mentioned copmpanies. You need at least the 1/11 twist and SPCII in the barrel. Good Luck with it.

I would buy a standard Xtreme from Titan Armory or ARperformance...or you can have Bison armory set you up.

The Xtremes run around 650.00 shipped and thats the standard model with optimal specs and a chrome lined bore.
That leaves 550.00 for a lower, BUIS and a cheap optic that will last.

*Find a lower for 100-150 bux forged or billet
*LPK = 65 bux dont get cheated on inflated prices
*Stock/ret/buffer/spring= 100-200 bux can get a kit anywhere from 50.00 to 100.00...you can go with the regular spring or a superior shootin systems chrome silicone one for an extra 30.00... a basic car or rifle stock kit which includes a buffer and receiver extension tube shouldnt cost over 100.00 so this leaves room for an aftermarket type like the ace arfx or ace socom... a magpul ctr stock would be a great choice for a car/6-position stock and they are low cost...

Misc, mags, ammo, buis, optic = 135-285 bux left over

c-products mags can be had anywhere from 12-15 bux each
ammo cost will depend on how well you look...
buis can be anywhere from 30.00 each or more... accushot makes a cheap but sturdy set of flip ups for 60.00 a set... magpul mbuis will cost around 90.00 a set... a good sling will cost around 30.00 ... you can get a good cheap optic that will last for under 100.00... leapers makes a durable brand...

thats 1200.00 well spent :)

+1 on the AR performance, Titan, or Bison upper. You will get more custom quality for the money, more "BANG" for the "BUX" as BL so apty puts it. IMHO, The $$$ should go in the barrel and all the secret things these guys do to make the uppers the best "BANG". The lower can be put together with what is left and updated later. You will like the way these uppers shoot. Just read up and observe all the happy customers on this site. The pictures are great.
