I havent had an issue feeding soft points... I do make sure the rounds are angled up slightly in the mag to ensure easy feeding though.

I have shot a bunch of SP's thru my AR and never had any issues.

The issue is if you run ALOT of soft points (400 to 500?) through your gun without cleaning the feed ramps, there have been issues with 5.56 feed ramps gumming up with lead. I have never experienced a problem with soft points, but most of my shooting is done with FMJ's.

I have not had any problems with various Federal softpoints.
I see a skid mark develop on the feed ramps, but it does not build up to anything substantial.
Maybe it depends on how soft the lead is in some brands of ammo.

No problems from me, but I don't fire a TON of soft points. I use core lokts and pro hunters and have never had an issue.

Just saw this issue come up again, so I'll quote from m4carbine.net:

"DocGKR has mentioned the feeding issue with soft-points before. The exposed lead meplats of the soft-point rounds cause lead build-up on the feed-ramps and after a couple hundred rounds can cause stoppages."

http://www.m4carbine.net/showthread.php?t=31574&page=2

I rarely shoot more than 200 rounds without cleaning anymore, but it seems like important info, when one of the currently best priced loads is SP.

Thanks for the feedback.

If you have M4 Feedramps, you should have no issues. Also, believe it or not, the PMAGs also do a great job of raising the tip of the bullets as they are chambering so they will drag even less on the feedramps.

No problems with the 63 gr Federal soft point thru non M4 feed ramps and M4 feed ramps on several different AR platforms. The soft points in the AK format are not well received. Based on comments above, it makes me wonder if mags are the issue as Pmags and the H&K steel are what I run in my AR's. I run the Circle 10 Bulgarian plastic and steel thru the AK. Even though they are the finest our Eastern Comrades have to offer, they do not like hollow or soft points.

Maybe it is the mags you are running? What kind do you use?

The issue has been documented with 5.56 mm Colt Mk18, M4, and 6920 carbines, firing Win 64 gr JSP RA223R2 from USGI aluminum mags with both green and Magpul followers--keep in mind this only happened during high round count evolutions, like 300+ rounds before lunch...
