Does anybody see smoke around the charging handle when they hand cycle? I was working the action on one of my ARs and it's generously lubed and I noticed smoke coming out, I was like what the f?! I don't know if it's b/c I'm going to fast and it's buring the CLP or what. Has anyone witnessed this before?

Uhm... Are you sure it's smoke and not mist? I've seen oil mist before (more pronounced on heavily lubed actions during dry fire, since the impact of the hammer tends to throw off a fine mist), but to heat clp to the point of smoking usually takes some pretty rapid fire, in my experience. That would be some serious hand cycling  :D

Haha, I'm married so I'm a pro!!! No but for real, I was breaking in the action and I cycle it pretty quick as some of you say you should do a 1000 times....well I was doing them in sets and I just noticed some smoke coming out and slight burning smell....?

Are you just pulling on one side of the charging handle? I use clp on mine and noticed that when I got a few cycles done pretty fast it would smell slightly burnt. I never got it smoking though :D .

All I could figure was the extra friction from pulling the charging handle unevenly was cooking off the anodizing in the raceway. It quit after all the finish was worn off the spots of contact.
