Smith needed to cut and thread a barrel...

I'm in the middle of an SBR upper project in .223 for my lil' lady to use. I'm having a tough time finding a 10" or so barreled upper so I'm thinking of taking another route...

Since this is a "budget" build, I'm thinking of just picking up a "cheap" 16", carbine gas length upper or kit and just having the barrel cut and threaded... Is this a good option? And does anyone know a good smith that is not swamped right now?

Hey Constructor... Would you like to tackle this quicky job? Or Tim? Or anyone?

You just cant find a barrel in stock or you cant find one at all?
I just can't find a short .223 barrel or SBR upper in stock. At least not in my price range. However, I can find the light weight and M4, 16" uppers complete with BCG within budget. Thus the idea to have one cut down...
SCORED!!! I have a new 10.5" LMT upper inbound for my lil' lady!! I hope she'll be happy now!! WAY out of budget, but what can ya do? At least she want's to go shooting!!

LMT is the way to go. I believe LMT sold uppers to the Navy for the Mk 18 CQBR so your gal will have a Mk 18 clone!!
Sounds like I found a good one for her!! Very cool!!

Since she's not real "hip" on iron sights, we're going to try (when budget permits) to set up her upper with a railed hand guard and the infamous "flaming pig" on the end. I'm thinking a D.D. Lite for the hand guard in a 10", a low profile GB is needed and then the lil' piggy on the muzzle... And for a sight, most likely an Aimpoint of some sort... I think she'll be one happy camper come spring!!
