I'm looking at picking up a small pin lower receiver and I would like to know what if any, drawbacks I'll encounter and how hard they will be to work around. Can someone help me out please?

What do you mean by small pin? Trigger or pivot pins?

Some Colt lowers have the "large" trigger pins that are .169 (IIRC) or so, and the standard trigger pins everyone else and some Colts use are .154.

Then some older Colt civilian lowers had different size front receiver pivot pins larger than the milspec .250 pins. They were .312. Both of mine have the .250 pivot pin but the larger trigger pins. You need an adapter pin to run a small pin upper on a large pivot pin lower.

Actually the small pin lowers are standardized with most manufacturersand compatible with most aftermarket triggers and receiver pins.
