After discovering 22 Hornet ammo is near extinct, my Ruger 77 sits in the safe…no ammo anywhere. After saving up and getting my Dan’l Defense Ambush in 6.8 and getting into reloading, it now seems like the beginning of the Hornet dilemma. Ammo ammo components seem to have dried up. In retrospect, I would have been better off selling a rifle to fund brass, and projectiles BEFORE the supply of components dried up.

Should I change my upper so I can get stuff to feed it. Or should I wait another 3-5 years for supplies to become available?

… or just switch guns to 308 and be happy with a sore right shoulder….which should limit my ammo usage?

There are ammo and components available if you are willing to order and pay dearly for them. Right now, small rifle primers are the hardest thing to find but still available for the determined. If you are looking for CHEAP ammo and parts, forget about it. Take up golf, it might be cheaper.

Been watching for hornet brass as I want to have more on hands. Ammo prices is ridiculous though as I can reload 223 and 22-250 far cheaper if you figured the cost of factory ammo. Just watched on GB on 200 rds PPU loaded ammo go for $500+ which leads me that some are extremely desperate.
Bullets are available from Midway and My local cabelas has CCI 400 primers 1K/90 bucks available but no brass anywhere yet.

Components are available. You can get primers online, just need to buy 1000 to make the shipping worth it IMO. I have to buy some large rifle soon (tons of SR, but no supply of SR .308 brass in stock) Loaded ammo for 6.8 is still available. Granted its running over a $1 a round. Heck .e08 is running $0.65 a round

I'd do as suggested pick up a case to start then get components while you're shooting them up to get fire formed brass. If you're set on waiting for cheaper, buy a 223/5.56 chambered barrel, install it and start shooting cheap surplus. Go back 6.8 when the prices are more your liking.
