Looks like good potential for an AR 15 hog hunting cartridge or dedicated subsonic SBR. While I really like 458 SOCOM cost and availability of brass is still a problem. If this catches on could be a good choice for taking on the 458 SOCOM role if able to buy brass at a reasonable cost. LeHigh 195 grain Controlled Fracturing copper solids but unfortunately they don't offer any 40 caliber rifle bullets. Downsize their 0.416" 350 grain projectile or some of the heavy 458 bullets, I have a 40 caliber NOE 245 grain gas check bullet mold but its the heaviest bullet I can cast in that size.

Done some Google searching and at present almost nobody makes a 40 caliber rifle bullet or bullet mold. Everything in 40 caliber is dedicated toward handguns so unless the aftermarket bullet companies and bullet mold companies (most will cut a custom mold in a heartbeat) embrace a 40 caliber rifle bullet line its the limiting factor for this new round. If stuck with only one or two factory loadings it will die o the vine fairly quickly.

I am gonna say it easier to load the 450 BM because of much more better selection of bullets. Plus it doesn't have near the terminal performance of 450BM and I already have all the reloading supplies for it. Not much so in the 40/10mm line up since Hornady dropped the 200gr. XTPs and don't see much else out that not going to be jacked up in prices or hard as hell to get.

For cast bullet options, check out accuratemolds.com

Click 'catalog' at the top. Page 13-14 have lots of interesting heavyweight possibilities. I have used AM for custom heavy 44mag bullet molds. Very happy with them.

hawkbullets.com has heavy jacketed .403", .406", and .408" rifle bullets that could be resized to .401" as needed here.
As soon as I can find a Savage 110 or 116 chambered in the 400L I’ll get one. Probably two.
