Hello,

I have already introduced myself in another thread but I didnt want to clog that thread up with my questions. If any of these have already been discussed in depth let me know, or atttach a link, or something. Thanks!!

1) Im pretty sure ive decided on the Stag 5H 6.8mm upper receiver, on their website it has a couple of drop down menus and one of the options asks if I want the standard front sight or "gas block". What does that mean?

2) Does anyone have any suggestions for a lower receiver? I was planning on just getting the stripped lower from STAG as well.

3) Will stag parts do for the lower or is there a superior lower parts kit to theirs that will work?

4) Is there any other 6.8mm upper receiver (complete) that stag offers with different options (barrel length/twist, "handguard", sights, etc)??

Thanks for the help, and this is an awesome forum. The 6.8 really does deserve its own.

HAHA!! Listen to me talk like I already own one

2) Does anyone have any suggestions for a lower receiver? I was planning on just getting the stripped lower from STAG as well. Any quality lower will work, especially the STAG.

3) Will stag parts do for the lower or is there a superior lower parts kit to theirs that will work? STAG is fine.

4) Is there any other 6.8mm upper receiver (complete) that stag offers with different options (barrel length/twist, "handguard", sights, etc)?? I've only seen it in the basic configuration, but I'd call them up.

Thanks for the help, and this is an awesome forum. The 6.8 really does deserve its own.

Welcome aboard. You may be better off just ordering a complete rifle from them.

Thanks for the help! About a week ago I noticed my dealer had a 6.8mm and I believe it was from STAG, complete with a case and "accessories" for $800 ( I think). I may have to go back there this weekend and take a look.

The Stag upper you like was tested on AR15.com against some custom 6.8 uppers and for its price it performed very well.

The front sight option you mentioned means you have a choice of the traditional "A" shaped fixed front sight post, or a gas block with a rail on it for you to mount a flip front sight if you chose to. Some people with optics prefer to have a flip sight and feel the fixed sight gets in the way of their optics view. Others like the ruggedness and reliability of a fixed front sight and can live with a little shadow in their scope, or some have no shadow as their optics are mounted high enough. Look at pictures of owners rifles on this site and on AR15.com and you'll see many combinations. Look at some other Stag rifles on their site and you'll see the differences.

Also some recent magazine articles about Stag 6.8's show the Samson Star-C freefloat quad rail forend on them so they may be available from Stag in 6.8 like they offer them on 5.56 rifles.

Paulosantos hit it on the head about most name brand lowers being fine. You can find good deals on Stag lowers too. Check out our vendors for lowers, and the equipment exchange on AR15.com.

I've seen the Stag 6.8 complete upper on AR15.com for $465.00. There are RRA uppers in that price range also. Those are pretty good deals considering the hardware included in that price.

thanks! I guess I will have to contact STAG and see what they can do. In the meantime I will take a look around ar15.com to see if I can find some in that price range. Also thanks for the link to that review!

Hey jbone, I have a Stag AR in 5.56 and the railed forend. It's a great shooter and in fact I'm looking at buying the 5HL upper also. I also have a question to anyone who knows or owns one---What kind of velocities can be attained out of it's 16 inch, 1 in 10 inch twist, SPCII chamber with 110 gr. bullets? From reading through this site I see that it will handle the SSA combat loads with more power and I want to handload for for it. I definately want to go with the Stag because it's available in left hand and I've had great reliability and accuracy with my 5.56. Thanks in advance for any help.

You can get 2600fps with the 16" barrel using H322.

I just have one more quick question. Is there any vendors on this forum or anywhere online that I would be able to order the 5H upper from and have the FSC30 permanently mounted prior to having it sent to me? It would save me from having to send it back out again. I dont think there are many if any gunsmiths around me. Thanks!!!!

Just an FYI, the Stag uses a diffrent thread size, so You'll have to send it out to get it re-threaded to the 5/8x24 threads. I'd just get the upper and send it to ADCO and have them cut it to 14" or 14.5" and have them permanently attach the FSC30.

ok I have another question! : What is a Buffer, buffer assembly, tube, etc.? I did a search and even went on goodle and couldnt find my answer on exactly what it does, how it works, where it is etc. And while on the topic, I am looking at getting one of those ace skeleton stocks, and I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on what buffer setup to go with (unless it already comes with one or something). And, as always, thanks for the help :D

ok, so the buffer assembly reduces the recoil of the rifle?

And yet another question!!!! Are there any lower parts kits that arent compatible with s&w m&p15 lower receiver? Thanks for being so patient with me I really appreciate it!!!

ok, so the buffer assembly reduces the recoil of the rifle? To reduce the recoil, you can get an H-Buffer, or H-2 Buffer. The Standard Carbine buffer is the lightest. You can also get a different spring such as the Superior Shooting Spring.

And yet another question!!!! Are there any lower parts kits that arent compatible with s&w m&p15 lower receiver? Thanks for being so patient with me I really appreciate it!!! All of the Lower parts are compatible. I'd stick with quality ones such as Bushmaster, CMT, RRA, etc. Glad I could help.

What are the differences(if any) between the AR-15, M4, and M16? I was told by an leo thats a friend of mine to make sure I get an M4 upper, but I was under the impression that the M4 is "select fire" and legal in the hands of a civilian. :?: Thanks again!!! LOL

An M4 is a Carbine with a 14.5" barrel and the M203 cut. The M16 is a Rifle with a 20" barrel. The AR-15 is just the civillian designation. I wouldn't pay too much attention to those designations as they are screwed up alot. Just get one that is Semi-Auto and you will be fine.
