What is the proper sight-in distance for a 6.8 with a 16" barrel? Is it sighted at 50yd then good at 250yd?

with a 50 yard zero you can hold dead on to 200 or so maybe a little more. I try to sight mine in to be about 1 inch high at 100 which for me translates to being 1/2 to 3/4 inch low at 50.

It can vary from round to round but like Marine said a zero at 50 should get you fairly close at 200 as well.

But so much of this depends on your projected use of the gun.
It's my patrol rifle.....so everything from entry/clearing to "across the parking lot" if need be. So I'd say the 50x200 should do it.

That is what I would do then shoot all your different distances from 10 yards out to 200 to verify and also to know your come up and downs just in case...

Brent, we zero our carbines at 100 Yards with irons and EOTechs. The 100 Yard zero is very simple because you don't have to worry about holdovers and holdunders, especially with your set-up, in which you have the scope mounted up higher than normal. All you have to learn is holdovers. It is a great zero for 0-200 Yards, which is ideal in LE.

I also like the 50 Yard zero as it is a very flat trajectory out to 250 Yards, but at 100 yards, you have to remember that you will be 1.5" high.

Here is a typical trajectory of the 6.8SPC with a 50 Yard Zero:
Code:
Range Drop Drop
(yd) (in) (MOA)
0 -3.0 ***
50 0.0 0.0
100 1.5 1.5
150 1.5 0.9
200 -0.4 -0.2
250 -4.2 -1.6
300 -10.2 -3.3
Here is a typical trajectory of the 6.8SPC with a 100 Yard Zero:
Code:
Range Drop Drop
(yd) (in) (MOA)
0 -3.0 ***
50 -0.8 -1.5
100 0.0 0.0
150 -0.8 -0.5
200 -3.5 -1.7
250 -8.1 -3.1
300 -14.8 -4.7

I set my scope to shoot 2.2in high at 100yds. That sets a point blank range with a kill zone of 5" for most projectiles coming out of my barrel (18") at about 2800fps, that will put it within 2.5 inches high or low of POA out to 260 yards.

You might find Point Blank useful. It doesn't always have the correct BC listed in the database, but it's easy to change. Here's one set up for Sierra 110gr Pro Hunters, with a kill zone of 6" the PBR is 250 yards.
