Had a dentist appointment today so I took a half day off of work. Was out of the dentist by 3:30 and decided to go primer scrounging around town.

Walk in my #1 local supplier. Good place that's run by 100% straight up no BS people. Lo and behold stacks of CCI primers, probably 15k total. Large and Small pistol, Magnum Large Rifle and Large Rifle Bench Rest. More than I've seen in one place at one time in a long long time.

I've got a decent stock of everything but small pistol and they've got a 1k/per person/day limit so I grab a grand of small pistol and head up to the counter.

I start shooting the bull with the guy behind the counter and he told me that what I saw on the shelf was the remains of 60k that he put out @ noon. More interestingly was the fact that he said it was an order he'd put in with CCI back in Feb and that the message that came with the delivery was "All Back Orders cancelled"

Now I can't vouch for that other than the guy has never BSed me before and as this mess has played out he's seemed as genuinely disgusted as anybody which makes sense considering if his shelves aren't stocked, he's not making money. If thats true thats a very interesting development....

I am inclined to think there were huge stockpiles of primers at the factories that have now dwindled down to nothing and there are so many pending backorders they will not accept more until they catch up.
Primers were selling for $70/1000 2 weeks ago, normal price about $24

i waited almost four hours a couple weeks ago at a gun show for primers which had a 5000 per person limit at $37 a thousand.Luckily they let me get 20,000 for making me wait in the line for hours. I was one of the first 50 people in the show & they were almost out of stock from 4 palates about an hour after i left.

I spoke with a guy from Natchezz and he said the shortage is temporary and starting around July, more primers will be popping up.

Well one thing I can say is these guys don't seem to be jacking prices through the roof. 1k small pistol cost me <$35 tax included. Considering that thats

A. < than 1k + hazmat would cost mail order and
B. nobody mail order has any primers anyway

I think I'll take it...

It was funny, the guy was bitching about some guy that had tried to buy all 60k right after he put them out. In his words "guy was probably one of those SOBs reselling on gunbroker for $70/1k."

I got a call from Graf's this morning. They wanted my permission to ship the the 5k of #41 and 5k of BR2's that I had ordered on 04/08/09. They didn't have to twist my arm much.. The 5k of Wolf SRMags that I ordered were still out of stock, however. This pretty much made my week, as I was down to zero of the both and the #41's is all I've used to work up 6.8 loads. Just thought I'd share. I had them backordered 1 month less than the Larue Stealth upper I bought on 3/12 and it shipped last Friday.

They are fantastic. I backorderd Federal Gold Medal match LR, some of the hardest ones to find anywhere, and only 5 weeks later, they called me up to confirm. Now they are sitting in my storage area. Got another 10k CCI SR on order from them, though I've been waiting on those going on two months now.

Funny as I was reading this, I got my email notification that they had them in stock, but alas, there are none.

So it takes about 30 mins for the email notification to go out, dam never get any that way, glad I have the 1K I got at SSA a while back. Should keep me going for a bit, hell I can't even load them yet ...

I need CCI Small Pistol as I am going through them like crazy, getting back into reloading is like a freaking addiction, I just want every brass case loaded now...

Got the ship notification from Graf&Sons that my 5k of Fed small pistol match are shipping so it looks like things are coming back in stock. SLOWLY.

Now when are those damn barrels going to get in.

I got a call from Midsouth and picked up a 1000 cci41's. The guy said things were starting to look better but he wouldn't commit on any dates for the other 4000. I didn't expect these, so I'm happy

I was actually surprised to see some at my local shop behind the counter. I asked for a brick and they said I could only buy 200!
Luckily my wife was there and they let her buy 200. 400 is better than none (which is what i had before).
