I'm considering buying an AR15 for hunting, primarily whitetails and hogs. My son has a tricked out AR15 that I have used to shoot two deer over the past two years. I'm debating (with myself) whether to get a 5.56 or a 6.8. Considering the 5.56 simply because of the availabilty of parts, ammo, etc but also looking at the 6.8 for the additional firepower. Suggestions?
Also any 6.8 owners in the north San Antonio/Bulverde area (Texas)?
Thanks,
cwlenz

Welcomea baord. There are several Texas guys here. If you are not in a hurry to get one, I'd get the Titan X-Treme. The STAG and RRA are also good choices.

Hi cwlenz, and welcome.

I think its safe to say that all of us are here because we think the 6.8 is a great all around cartridge.
Personally, I never really considered "mouseguns" just because of the limited power of 5.56 for things like deer hunting.
The 6.8SPC changed all of that. 8)

Now we have a platform that is good for coyote to elk out to 300+yards and paper punching out to 600+ yards,
all with very little recoil and 25-30 rounds in a magazine.

The availability of 6.8 parts is less and less of an issue, with more MFGs getting on board.
There are fewer sources of Ammo, but that is improving as well.
Off the top of my head, SSA, Hornady, Remington and S&B all produce it and Federal has plans to.
That said, actually obtaining ammo is easy, call SSA and order. Done.
