OK, I've got a PTR-91. I like the thought of having a .308 in the arsenal, but HK/PTR's seem like a fat hairy one to get a scope on. Those claw scope mounts are more expensive than I'd prefer to fork out for a friggin mount, and they don't look to stable to me. I've never actually had one on the rifle, but it just looks like a poor mount option to me.
I would like to get a FNAR. They're nice looking, set up for optics and should be a reliable platform. Problem is they want more bucks for them than they're willing to give for the PTR. Even after I offered to put $200 in on the deal, it was a no go.
They've got DPMS .308's that would be pretty much a swap, but I'm leery of yet another gas impingement system to toil over and I'm not so sure how they do at range. 3-4-5 hundred yards.
So, whats yer qualified (or not) opinions on my dilemma? Save up enough for the FNAR, go with the DPMS, or suck it up and stay with the PTR?
Thanks,
Rick out!
