Ive asked this question before but I cant find were it is.
I have to buy led free ammo for hunting here in California. Ive heard alot that the Barnes 85gr from ssa is outstanding. But when I look around the posts I see that the pro hunter 110gr is talked about as being the best all around round. I know thats not lead free, but when compared, it more matched the 110gr Barnes than the 85gr. lI will hunt mainly pigs, and California deer. maybe Bobcat, Cyotes and hopefully an Elk someday.

The Barnes 85TSX or the 110TTSX will both work well for hogs. To my knowledge the 85 has not been tested on deer. GS has a new 99gr HV that should work well if you reload.

It's questionable whether the TSX will open on soft skin game like deer. I'd have to go with tthe 85 TSX if I were you. The lighter weight will make for a much faster bullet and lessen the chances the bullet won't bloom. The 99HV DDriller is talking about would be much better, but right now you'd have to reload to use them.

According to Barnes, it will work just fine on a deer. They talk about it at 1:11

Well thank all of you for your inputs. I liked that youtube video. I will be getting the 85gr Barnes from SSA when they get some for sale.

This should probally be in reloading but I wanted to keep it here for now. If I were to reload the 85gr Barnes, would it be cost effective vs just buying a box of SSA? I dont reload at this time but if its worth it, I may. For the record, Ill be using a AR15 Performance Extreme upper.

airbrusher the determining factor for cost effectiveness would be the amount of ammo you would be shooting. IIRC it is somewhere around the 1-2k round mark where you start to save money on reloading.

it really comes down to how much you want(are able) to shoot and of course if you reload you could really push the performance of the rifle and the bullets.....

Both of those two previous posts are correct. The benifits to handloading are cost effectivness if you shoot enough. (you don't really save any money you just shoot more for your money)
And the big one is you can play and push the bullet to it's potential.
