currently running a flaming pig. got it 6 or 7 months ago from Tim (IIRC). Question is, should I swap it out for something small like a vltor vc-302? Will there a be a big audible difference to the shooter by removing the pig and going to a more traditional device? I like the looks of it, but not sure what I'm getting, and this kind of leads me into what to get for my new build as quiet to the shooter is the most important...

What is the barrel length. Those things really help with reliability, so if it is working good, I'd keep it.
It's a 10.5" and it does perform pretty good, no real issues.

It is up to you. Try the Vltor and see how it works out.
