What are your opinions on the McFarland Gas ring?

The reason for the question is I have one that I am considering putting on my new MK68 SAM-R

I have one on my 5.56 and I put one on my first 6.8 as I have always been somewhat paranoid about the three gas rings lining up on the bolt. I haven't had all three line up but have had two with the third one close on multiple occassions.

The ones on my first 6.8 and 5.56 have worked great but I have only shot a few rounds out of the 6.8 with a lot more out of the 5.56

TIA

I have 2 on 2 different 5.56's and haven't had an issue with either one. They both have shot thousands of rounds, some in FA.

From what I have heard, the gas rings lining up and causing problems is a myth. Not sure though, as I have never taken the time to test it out. It is said that the loss in gas flow, if any, is so minimal that it won't cause any problems. Don't take my word on it, this is just what I have heard.

Unless you already have gas problems, the gas rings lining up shouldn't make a difference.

Thanks for the replies.

"H" I probably should have went straight to you for the answer.
