Well I came across where Olympic Arms has a 6.8mm.
They didn't have much information other than 1/10 twist.
So I being curious type emailed and asked,

Who made their barrels?
What the chamber spec did they have?
And for fun I asked. Will they handle SSA combat loads?

I got a response email back, I would attach exactly what the response was
But I'm on my cellphone posting this.

The exact response was from an Andy Wilson from Olympic Arms

'We make our own barrels. sami spec chamber and yes.'

That's it one sentence short and sweet. Or sour from using outdated freakind specs.

Well from what I have read 1/10 with sammi spec shooting combat loads would be over pressure.

I hope they have spec 2 at least while using 1/10 twist if not it would be riduclous
What says the peanut gallery¿?

Given their spotty record over the years, why wouldn't you just get a Stag if funds are tight?

Some people just have to find out things for themselves. Once you spend time on this site doing research, not just bs'ing around, you realize what combinations to look for and what companies to do business with.

You look for the quality control, and companies who participate in providing a good product, not just buying a pallet of parts and offering them for sale.

Thanks for responding. I just want a clarification on something.
When I asked what chamber was being used you responded back sami.
From what I have read from reports of over pressure in the chambers of 6.8mm
when using 1/10 twist and sammi chamber it will not shoot SSA 6.8mm combat
loads. But you said that it will shoot them. Is the chamber a sammi chamber
or is it a spec2 chamber with improved dimension that allow for wider range
of hotter ammo to be used other than the remingtons under powered ammo?
Like I said before I just would like some clarification. Thanks again.

I suspected this from the start but i wanted to share
Just in case someone else ran across a .. good deal and it turn out to be  not a good deal.
Wouldn't it be so nice if every manufacture was up front and told the whole truth
and not parts and pieces from the get go.
Seems rather fishy tactics to trick someone into buying your product that way...
I can't wait till i get my xtreme upper....but waiting patiently..

If we ignore Olympic in this case and consider 6.8's in general, we should remember that a barrel can be updated to spc II by having Paulo Santos ream the chamber.....somehow, I doubt we are going to run across too many "smokin'" deals in this climate, however :) It may be just as easy to buy one with the better spec to begin with.

Unfortunately I purchased a 6.8 upper before joining this forum and did so with some ignorance. I was impressed with the potential of the round and found a "deal".

I got an Oly as I have been happy with a 5.56 that I picked up a few years ago so I picked up the Oly in 6.8 with a 16 inch SS bull barrel. I am on the list for Paulo's reamer and am not shooting any SSA CL until after I do the chamber. :|

I wish I had joined the forum previously so I could have gotten in on the Extremes now I will have to wait until the next run. I will then have two. I have more than one of multiple calibers so this won't be unusual for me. I definitely want the best for what this cartridge can do.

Good Old 20/20 hindsight.

It's easy to do. I have a closet and several drawers full of gadgets that weren't what they should have been. If you just have to update a chamber, that's easy to do. If you have one of those over chromed barrels Tim_W talked about, that's when you have problems.

Their barrels are actually pretty good and they guarantee accuracy. An advantage for me since I live down the road. But, for me the 1:10 and original SAAMI chamber was the reason I didn't get one. That and I didn't get the impression they were big 6.8 fans.
