You know, there's a certain irony here.
All the Obama Administration has to do, apparently, is wait for rumor and innuedo to spread about coming gun/ammo control measures, and the folks that can afford to go and snap up everything in sight that is remotely gun-related, especially ammo and components for EBRs. This leaves regular folks without anything, or having to stretch credit cards to pay the newly inflated prices that artificial scarcity cause.
No new gun control legislation has passed, yet it is becoming increasingly difficult to purchase EBRs or ammo at anything approaching reasonable prices. Wolf for $400/k, anyone? Wait times are also months or even years long. Isn't this exactly what would happen if a new assault rifle ban or tax on ammo were to become law?
I agree we need to fight any effort on the government's part to introduce or pass new gun control measures, but there has to be a better way than spreading conjecture and rumor until everyone is in a blind panic. The majority of gun owners or prospective gun owners are not plugged in enough to winnow the wheat from the chaff. Heck, I still see at least a half dozen posts a week about the government' destroying once-fired MIL brass, even though this decision was reversed quite awhile ago.
Maybe it's just a matter of choosing our words carefully so we can see there is an issue at hand, yet we don't slip into panic mode.

+1 on this, I had planned an AR purchase for a long time before the election, and did so 100% due to the availability of the Xtreme--Obama didn't scare me into buying anything. Then I found out that we gun owners can be our own worst enemies. I am one to ask for evidence and information before I get scared about stuff, and so far all the sky-is-falling posts I've seen since mid-Clinton Ban just produced a lot of blood pressure spikes--no more.caporider said:

Re-reading this I realize it sounds like I'm attracting flames here. Not my intention to get into politics, but rather to voice a complaint about the irony of this whole deal. I'd bet that every one of us has half a dozen firearms between the bed and the front door, yet the thought that some introduced legislation might hurt us two years down the road--and rather than fight it with letters and phone calls, we so often take the bait and buy ourselves into a panic-induced problem like this. Anybody remember when Johnny Carson caused a shortage of toilet paper, just by announcing that there was going to be one? Everybody ran out that night or next morning and bought it up: self-fulfilling prophesy. If our government is ever going to try to make it hard to buy firearms of any sort, let it be by some other means than getting us to do it to ourselves.

I do the phone calls and letters along with warning others. right now Obama has gun owners under attack in some many back door ways that he is using the panic to his advantage simply by getting so many gun owners to say there is nothing to worry about, he is not doing anything.
he started with the military brass, now he is going after reloading supplies and putting pressure on amoo manufactures that sell to the government not to sell to the public. where are the normal shipments of 7.62*39? we have no idea what the state department has already done to stop incoming supplies.

Ok... I'll try not to get off on a rant here. What people need to realize is that they are going to do anything possible to pass little bullshit laws under the table, this is a perfect example. Then once everything is in place, and Obamas Key players are in place (if you can guess who they will be) will have these little under the radar laws to back up legal arrests and confiscations of firearms in the courts. (also watch out for the racist laws, it's just a matter of time before they use racism against white people to start taking away guns). So the Key players? Obamas "private loyalist security forces". He knows he can't trust red blooded American soldiers and police officers to take guns away from other red blooded honest, hard working American civilians. So when he has his loyalist "Brown Shirts" in the streets in 4 years, he can send them out to harrass the populace. Obama has a massive following of ignorant fanatical liberals who would jump off their poarch to do his bidding. All he has to do is call for them. With the backing of trillions of our (OUR) hard earned tax dollars, he can build an entire society of fanatics willing to do anything for "Change and Hope" or whatever the fuck they will be calling it.
This is obviously the extreme of what is possible, and what we all know Fanatical Liberal Socialists want (they all say it in their own words and hints). But all we have to do is look at history guys... this has already happened dozens... hundreds, maybe thousands of times in the history of human civilization. It's only a matter of when it happens again. I'm of course hoping rationality and COMMON SENSE keeps anything like this from actually happening, but we all know it's a possibility... All it takes is socialism. It's what Socialism did for Nazi Germany...

It's more serious than most people will take it for. If things swing the wrong way, there could be a serious reckoning in this country. I don't want to see it of course! I'm just reading history here. The fall of Rome, the Crusades, The Spanish Inquisition, The American Revolution and the French Revolution! The Great War, The Bolshevick Revolution, the rise of Nazi Germany and the breakout of World War II, The fall of the Soviet Union... You can't fucking make everything rainbows and unicorns with gold coins coming out yer ass! This is human nature to have power over others, and it's human nature to fight these powers in the name of Liberty and Freedom. Our Constitution is a living proof of this up to this day, and if we let it die, there can be serious concequences. It's common sense! grrr, i'm fixing to get into Rant mode, better cool it and have another beer.

SOrry but if you think there is no way ever the mil or Le woudl go house to house then I think history woudl prove you wrong. It only took a hurricane and a flood to have that exact thing happen in New Orleans. Now we can all put out various reasons how that was a very specific situation but it doesn't matter it happened. Many State Governors with emergnecy powers can suspend many rgun rights. They can snatch up all CCWs. Prohibit any and all gun use or what have you. all it takes is a state of emergnecy. While huge leaps are alwasy hard to comrehend imagine taking soomeone from 100 or 200 years ago in this country and letting them see what its has become now. I bet they woudl have said the same thing that there was no way it could have ever happened.
Everyone just needs to remember without the 2nd amemndment being held onto with teeth and nails fight every step of the way we can and will loose the abilty to be able to keep all the other rights and freedoms we have when push comes to shove.

Katrina was a totally different situation and many people don't agree with the way things were handled. You had guys going around with AK's shooting at people and they made a decicion to take guns. I don't agree with it, but at the same time, I wasn't down there getting shot at by pieces of shit with AK's, so it is hard to comment either way.
But we are talking about the Government passing a law banning guns and expecting the LE to go house to house taking guns. That is not happening.
