Have just ordered a 6.8 from LWRC in the M6A2 config. So, the fun begins - I know I'll need mags (lots) rail covers, sling swivel, sling and ammo (lots more). Will need to research sight options as this will primarily be range work/HD and my eyes aren't what they used to be. Looking forward to the experience. Have been thinking LaRue for the rail covers, etc. any other good options? I'm really new to the AR platform. Thanks for the help.

Welcome aboard. Sounds like you could use some magnification. I would check out the 1x4 scopes out there. They are plenty. Then get a Larue mount if you want a quick release mount, or some good high rings if you don't need QD mounts. A good sling to check out is the Vikings padded V-Tac.

You've read my mind. I've been using the search button and trying to get some info on optics and I am thinking a 1-4x. I don't want to put cheap glass on a good rifle, but the Elcan Specter DR is a bit out of my range. Any opinions on 1-4x scopes? Or ACOG's? I imagine my budget would be at or under $1000 if I can w/mount. I saw Burris is coming out with one in April or so, but I haven't had any exposure to Burris quality. Any opinions? Thanks.

Trust me, you wouldn't want the Elcan anyway. Too many issues. I recommend staying away from any of the scopes that have caliber specific reticles as they are a pain in the ass to match up.

The new Trijicon 1x4 accupoint is going to be one of the best 1x4 scopes coming out. Another nice 1x4 scope is the Horus 1x4 Talon, but some people find the reticle to be too busy (I don't).The Leupold 1.5x5 is also a great scope. Then there is the Nightforce and USO 1x4 scopes, which are great, but a little expensive. I had an ACOG and like it at first, but the more I shot it, the more I didn't like it.
