Found this on anoterh thread. Anyone here no of this product?

"Thought I would share the good news with people who haven't had time to figure this one out, but for those of you who are looking for a high capacity magazine for a Ruger Ranch Rifle 6.8 I have found one and it works without any milling or adjusting..The magazine is made by "National Magazines inc." and if you buy the magazine for the "Mini 30" you can buy it at cabellas. This fit directly into Ruger Rancher 6.8 without any problems! So no more waiting for Ruger to come out with a high capacity magazine. It works I have one."

Sounds too good to not already be in common use.

Maybe they're out in small batches. I went to ProMag's site and could not find them listed either, yet Outdoor Sports Depot has them listed on their retail website.

The 6.8 Mini-14 will sell like crazy if you can get 20 round reliable magazines for them.

I bought a mini 30 mag and tried this. I could load about 17-18 rounds in it. It would fit in the gun and drop out (the mini14 mags spread and won't fit) but after 10 rounds they would not sit correctly in the magazine and not feed. The base of the cartridge would drop more with each additional round. I don't know if you could modify the follower or feed lips to make it work. That is the next step to try but I haven't gotten around to it yet.

I just ordered a promag 20 round from Outdoor Sports Depot. I will let you know how it works when it comes in.

ProMags

Found a link to Promag and found that they carry 10 and 20 rnd mags. Anyone know about the quality? I've heard that there are major issues with aftermarket mags for the Mini 14, to just stick with mags from Ruger.

ProMag 10rd 6.8 mags work great for me. Haven't really tried the 20rd mags yet. I usually use the Ruger 5rd mags for hunting, as the rifle handles so much better with a flush-fitting mag.

I got 3 of the 20 rounders from Pro Mag when they first came out and they work flawlessly for me. I ordered two more from Gunclip Depot a couple of months ago and they work fine as well.

ProMag 20 rd. mag. Wouldn't Lock Up

I received a ProMag 20 magazine today for my Ruger mini14 Ranch 6.8 and had to work on it with a file to get it to lock into the well.

Problem was the locking ridge that is stamped into the rear panel of the mag was a bit too long. I called ProMag and told them what I thought the problem was, and that I thought I could fix it with a little filing. They told me to go ahead, and that they would still honor the life time warranty regardless.

I found the length of the ProMag ridge was 0.900", while the factory mag was 0.862". The extra length would not allow the mag to lock up. The bottom of each ridge was essentially identical; so, all I had to do was file metal off the top of the ridge. Attached photo shows the location.

I did this piece meal, trying the fit as I went. I thought this would allow me to remove the least amount of metal to reach a good fit, but caused a problem. After removing about ten thousandths, I tried it and found that it 'clicked' into locking position. However, I had a great deal of trouble getting the release to drop it out.

Ultimately, I removed 31 thousandths, and got a good fit with easy removal.

I took pictures and sent ProMag a summary. I'd say they need to modify their press to avoid this problem.

Has anyone else run into this situation?

I had a Mini-30 and bought 4 Promag 10-rounders for it. Same problem with a couple of them, but a little filing took care of it.

Feeding was the real problem with mine. 3 out of 4 were jamming the bullets down low. Normally I would suspect a feed lip problem, but this turned out to be the followers -- they were tilting down causing the jamups. I was able to modify one follower and get it working right. The Ruger followers were only $2 so I bought 3 and that fixed 'em right up. It was a lot of hassle, but they were the only game in town for anything more than 5 rounds.

I worked on two Pro-Mag 20-rounders and a 10-rounder last night trying to adjust the feed lips to prevent my SSA TNTs from misfeeding. I ran into the same problem with the magazine follower on one mag. The first round was positioned perfectly with the bullet angled slightly upward and the case neck clearing the front of the magazine, but the second round remained flat and down low in the magazine.
