While checking out Cold's videos from the LaRue 3-Gun match earlier this year, I came across this one of Army training/practice with M4 carbines.

Since SOCOM operators purportedly have used 6.8 carbines in Iraq and/or Afghanistan, I wonder if they also trained to fire "double taps" even with the larger caliber?

John Boyette and Ross Butler who taught our class also instruct the military. They were teaching us to double tap, not sure why you wouldn't really...

We pratice double taps and triple taps and 5 shot and every variation you can think of.... we do it with pistol, rifle and SAW's (funny story we were practicing failer drills with the M4's and us SAW guys get up there the FI is telling us how we dont have to do a burst to the head becuase after a burst to the chest he probably wont be fighitng back, we tell him we are going to do it anyways for GP, plus it lets you focus on your marksmansship a little bit more....) you dont want people to focus on just two shots and move on you want people to continue to engage the threat until it is stopped so if its 2 or 17 rounds until it no longer becomes a threat continue to engage... now if you have multiple targets we ussually do double taps on each target then coming back through the targets to do double taps again....

I was just curious if the superior terminal effects of 6.8 (compared to 5.56) might have caused a change in training and use, so that perhaps with 6.8 it was considered unnecessary fire double taps.

My SWAG is that it wouldn't since even with .308 you're going to have some folks refuse to lie down even if they're walking dead.

Double taps aren't a problem with the 6.8. I am not LE or military, but I do some competitive shooting. The 2 gun I shot last week required double taps at 25 and 50 meters. A few of the competitors were active LE with .308's, and they had no problem running the course of fire.
