I just bought a Magpul Miad for my new lower and have a quick question about intallation and fit. I know that in the instructions it says to use the griip screw provided and not the screw or washer that comes with the origanl lpk.

I got the girp installed, but it seems like the screw is still too long. I was wondering if anyone else that owns a miad has experienced this. My last grip (ergo sure grip) did the same thing, but it was an easy fix with just the addition of a few lock washers. Should I just take the same approach with this one?

The only time I've ever had a grip screw not seat completely was when I had it somewhat cross-threaded. I have a correctly sized tap in my tool kit now thanks to that experience, and I always chase the threads with the tap before I install a new grip. I find that it helps to clean up the threads and get out any anodizing or old Loctite that might be in there. I've never had a problem installing a grip screw since starting this practice.

While the washer fix may work, I'd rather figure out what caused the issue than just apply stop-gap fixes. I wouldn't be happy not knowing.

I have never had one to long.... I think I have 4-5 of them.... Chck the threads and try installing the screw without the grip on to see if it is binding or anything...

Edit: are you using the screw that came with the MIAD? I think it is shorter then the normal A2 screw....

It is a shorter screw, that is why I don't understand what is going on. I will take the grip off again and try it without the grip. The one with the ergo, the screw was too long. I even checked it with a different one.

Ok...I got it working correctly. I took the screw out again and screwed it in without the grip on. What I think happened is that it had a little too much of the blue loctite, and it was making it a lot harder to put on than it should have been. When I took the screw out of the lower, some of the loctite came off with it. When I put the grip back on, it fit as snug as it should.

Magpul is known for putting a little to much loc tite down. I had to thin out some when I installed mine. glad to hear it worked for ya, I love the feel the MIAD.

+1

This is a common issue with the supplied screws.
