Mag Lip Adjustments

4928 Views 12 Replies 9 Participants Last post by  GUNSnHOGS
For those that are "seasoned" in tuning/adjusting the mag feed lips for optimal feeding, would you prefer a tool such as this:

http://masterpiecearms.com/shop/mpa-mag-feed-lip-adjustment-tool/

Or would the basic Brownells' be your first choice:

Wanting to tweak several G3 PRIs plus a couple of ASCs. Seeing scratches on the brass during feeding from the sharp edges. Also want to cant the front of the round up just a bit for better feed angle.

Any details would be appreciated.

Thanks!

i'm still confused as to why 68 mags are not designed and made like this from the start.
Me too. Hasn't the forum proved the mod helps? I don't have a Six8 - do the pmags feed "at the proper angle"?

This info is exactly what I was looking for!

Thank you Sir! Truly appreciated!

Here's what I'm getting with the ASC:

Product Material property Electronics Plastic

PRI:

Product Wallet Material property Electronic device Fashion accessory

ASC catching front of mag during hand cycling:

Pen Ammunition Office supplies Gun accessory Metal

Thinking the ASCs are going to need adjustments to the lips plus notching......

Perhaps I have just been lucky, but all my mags haven't needed adjustment including the 10 six8 pmags.

I have never had to tweak the feed lips on any AR style mag. I guess like Wassman I have just been lucky.

i had to tweak all my ASC mag lips, didn't do any grinding. they all hand cycle with clearance now. i did have to grind on my CPD mags tho, every single one of them. the D&H i tweaked the mag lips a touch. just bought 10 more of the D&H
ASC on the left, PRI on the right:

I can see brass rubs on the front of the ASC, both sides. Probably from the case neck. IMO, the ASCs could definitely benefit from a cut-out similar to the PRIs.

Interesting, my asc's have more of a cut out than yours but not as much as those pri's

I tweak all my mag lips to present the ammo at more of an angle (like man does) it works for my nextgen 308 also

Yea, I'm surprised too that the ASCs have no cut out whatsoever......and these were purchased recently direct from ASC.

Even the Barrett I have (on the left) has a slight cut out:

Right now I'm thinking the ASCs will definitely need a notch as I don't like the case neck catching on the front during hand cycling....
