Well, I guess my rifle doesn't really like shooting tight groups, so I'm thinking about going more toward a light weight "go to" gun.
Right now, I have the Knight's rifle length free float tube and a Ko-Tonics barrel, Magpul CTR, and lefty Stag upper. Optic is an Elite 4200 2.5-10x50.
Is there a lighter tube? I hate rails, and liked their's because I can add short bits of rail for my needs. Maybe a smaller optic or irons?
I am also considering going to a plastic standard forearm, but like the idea of a free float.
What to do...?
Let me hear your opinions

I think Ko-tonics barrels are just heavier. I dont know if it is because it is a 6.8 barrel or not. I have a Ko-tonics with the light weight yhm mid length handguard. My dad has a stag 5.56 with a larue mid length handguard and while the Larue handguard is lighter that doesn't account for the weight difference in our guns.

What kind of groups are you shooting and with what ammo?

What is the barrel length? The new Troy 11" MRD Extreme are the lightest ones.
Also remove anything you have upfront such as a bipod.
Their barrels have the SPR profile, which are heavy
You may want to run the Tubbs Final Finish bullets through that upper. It should help with the accuracy.

Yea it is really amazing what removing things will do. I have Magpul rail covers on my handguard and had a Tango Down vertical grip. It is amazing what simply removing the plastic will do to lighten up the gun, but then my rails are exposed. I just removed the VFG to lighten mine up. I figure I will just use the mag as my VFG for now.

Shorter handguard? How bout a JPE midlength tube? I think the Troy Extreme rails are the lightest available, but they're full rails, not customizable.

That may or may not be a savings over your current Knight setup.

Do you need the collapsible stock? The ACE Ultra Lite is 5oz.

That scope's gotta go. That'd be your biggest single weight loss. Maybe a 1x4? Or even an EoTech or Aimpoint?

What's your barrel profile? Maybe get it turned down some?

The YHM is actually lighter than the LR or DD lite. The troy is the lightest by far.

What barrel profile did you get from KT the SPR or the lite? The lite is one of the better profiles for barrels that balances weight with accuracy. Our Xtremes are very similar to the lite and compared to the Denny recon which isn't exactly heavy its still lighter. Barrels can certainly be made lighter but you are sacrificing accuracy as the barrel heats up and increased barrel whip.

I think the Troys are the way to go

My apologies. I must have compared the larue carbine hanguard to the midlength yhm. I guess i had it set in my mind that the handguard was the difference.

That gun looks light even with the scope on. Not to ninja the this thread but how do you like that Ace stock? That is the only one that I have seen that I really like the looks of.

My only complaint is that it's a little heavy, however with the weight behind the grip it balances well for carrying one handed. The CG with a full straight magazine is right at the mag catch.
