I haven't had much time lately but I have chronographed the combat load out of the 8" and 14.7" LWRC's. 2678 fps from the 8" and 3007 fps from the 14.7". The TSX is designed as a hunting round and I think the 85's would work well as a hunting round and a bad ass combat round. I haven't seen any ballistics tests on it yet so I don't know how far it penetrates but I imagine it will be at least 12 inches and probably alot more. At 2550fps I've tested the 110gr TSX and they expanded to an average of .60". Just imagine that bullet design at 3000 fps. After running the numbers on the JBM program, 3000 fps muzzle velocity gives it a performance envelope of 500 yards (if the hollow point opens at 1900 fps). Since it is a solid copper bullet it will be good for intermediate barriers. I think this may be the best round yet for the 6.8 for general use. I haven't tried accuracy testing yet but I don't have any reason to believe it won't be accurate enough for combat use.
I ran the numbers in JBM and I get a bit over 1900 FPS at 400 yards for a TSX launched at 3007 FPS. Am I correct in assuming that you were using the Combat loads to get over 3000 FPS out of a 14.7" barrel?

They don't have an 85gr TSX listed on the JBM in the .270 caliber so I used the 85gr TSX in the .243 and guessed the BC was about .280. I used 4000 feet elevation. So the numbers might not be right on for this load. Either way, 400 yards or 500 yards, still impressive.
Darn straight about the impressive part. The reason I paid attention is I hope to have a similar setup and you made my heart speed right up with those numbers! The BC according to Barnes is .323. When I run them I get 400 yards but that is because I am at sea level. Very, very impressive to me. I match your results of roughly 500 yards when I put in 4000 foot of altitude.

Were you using the combat loads to get those speeds?

The TSX's are performing just about like I had imagined....and they do it at just under 3000 FPS from the 12.5 inch barrel. Yeah, baby, yeah.
Man, you guys are giving me a serious case of heart palpitations. I wonder how they work out for home defense use? I have a 12.5" coming and it would be sweet beyond belief to have that kind of range out of it. I am not a hunter, well, not yet but if I keep hanging around here that'll probably change...

And yes, I fully expect to get 2900 FPS form the 12.5" Cardinal barrel. That is pretty amazing when you think about it. As soon as I get back from Laredo, I am going back in for the next pig shoot, but, I have a party from NY coming in for trophy deer Saturday.[/quote]
What kind of load are you using in that? I'd love to know for when mine gets here.

As for home defense, probably not the best round because of the depth of penetration, but until we see ballistics gel reports who knows for sure. For 12.5" barrels and longer I still think the Hornady 110gr vmax is perfect. For everything else, the 85gr TSX.
That's good to hear since I've been concentrating on the V-Max so far. Just got a couple hundred rounds of the Urban Tactical in. I'm now up to 600 rounds of ammo without a rifle. I'm months away especially after the wave of Class 3 registrations hits from the Obama Onslaught of sales.
