You use the one that matches the bullet diameter. I would assume in this case 6mm or .243.
So the shoulder doesn't come into play?
This was my concern that it might make a difference.

Lfcd shouldn't contact the shoulder, but cartridge/case height does matter--- have you tried shooting your reloads before crimping? Many times rifle ammo is more accurate when not crimped

the lee fcd not only would need the correct neck size (6mm for your application) --- but the intended case length would need to be the same (1.677" long) as the way they work is that the shell holder pushes up on the "collet" part and crimps the neck around a mandrel
Yes I haven't crimped any of my 6x6.8 but I'm using ch4d dies and my neck tension seems to be very light no matter what I try

on some 3-4 times fired brass.
It would t be much just enough to hold it in place.
Thanks.

you using bushing dies from ch4d? if so try 1 size smaller bushing--or try annealing your brass after the 2nd or 3rd firing

lee makes custom crimp dies for about $25 I think--here is info from their site

Rifle Factory Crimp Die 7/8 x 14" thread

The collet-type Factory crimp die can be made for a wide variety of cartridges. Most cartridges will fit into the 7/8x14 thread die body.

If your cartridge falls within the following parameters it will fit the standard 7/8 x 14 die:

  • Bullet diameter .172 - .501 (minimum - maximum)
  • Body diameter .295 - .585
  • Case length 1.285 - 2.850 (All dimensions in inches)
Cartridges over the maximum in any of the three parameters will most likely fit into the large series die. These have a 1 1/4x12 thread, so your press must be capable of accepting this thread size.

We need:

  • Payment of $25.00 + shipping
  • Dummy cartridge (a bullet seated in an empty case). The dummy cartridge is for testing purposes, so make sure it is within normal dimensional tolerances.
  • Any handgun case that is of a bottleneck design qualifies because the die would have to be made much like the rifle factory crimp dies but we do not make die bodies shorter than that you would find on a .223 Remington. Examples would be the 30 Mauser, 7.62 x 25 and the .357 Sig. The 50 AE also applies because the case is too short for the die bodies available.

Thanks Hog Man!
I have a custom set of ch4d dies, I may have to look into annealing.
