What 1911 mag do you prefer?

I just got a 1911 for 3 gun, Im sick of shooting a glock, now I need mags.

I just ordered 4 Wilson 47ds and was curious if anyone uses the Kimber Tac Mags?

Also Tripp Research seems to get good reviews, any thoughts?

Sweet TRP Cold. I may try some of the Kimber's myself. They get good reviews and their price is tempting. I haven't bought 1911 mags in a while because mine have been good to me. My Les Baer mags have been great. I have two blue and two stainless. I also have good experience with several McCormick stainless mags.

Everyone says Wilson is the standard, but I've done pretty well with Baer's and the CMC mags too.

That is a nice looking gun, I have the TRP Operator and love it. I work with several guys that use the Wilson mags, and I have never heard anything bad about them.

At the suggestion of one of the guys I bought a couple Chip McCormick Power mags to try out. He said that those had worked just as well and were less money. I bought a couple the 8rnders and love them. They function 100%, I've never had an issue with them.

They also drop free, whereas the factory mags do not drop free every time.

I carry wilson's. I like their follower. I have a lot of chip McCormicks that I practice with. I haven't had much problems out of any of my 1911 magazines. I have some cheap springfield magazines that seem to be fine also.

I would like to hear a range report on the TRP. I carry a Springfield loaded that I had some work done to. I really like it for what I use it for. I carry it to the farm with me daily.

I like Springfield's new Loaded black stainless Target.

Cold, you have a nice looking new toy.

Off subject, Cold what shotgun do you use in 3 gun? I would like to give 3 gun a try.

I suggest Wolff seven and eight round mags. They use ACT mag bodies and smooth, metal followers but use extra strength 11 pound magazine springs. They work with +P's, which is a good test of a 1911 magazine and are around $20 or $25. If you have a magazine with an underpowered spring and use hotter defensive ammunition you will likely end up with live round stove pipes. That is a beautiful 1911.

As for shotgun I use a Benelli M2 with the pistol grip and ghost ring/rifle sights.

I ordered some wilson combat mags and will have to get some Kimber tac mags next.

I need to try the tripp mags too, I like how they are a built to order mag in a way,

THATS A PHUKIN SWEET PISTOL COLD.... CHEERS

I hear alot about 1911 mags that dont work... what I have found out over the last couple weeks of fondling my 1911 is that the 7 rounders seem to behave the best.... my pistol came with a colt mag/ a chip mccormick mag and a springfield mag....they are all the standard design with stock springs and metal followers.... the 8 rounders can get testy , especially with hollow points... they also stick sometimes during insertion and need a polite slam.... I just bought some govt contract black 7 rounders for 12.00 each... they seem to work just as well as the others so I guess it depends.... I am going to stick to 7 round mags only and leave the higher mag capacity to my xd .45 ..... If these end up suckin I will just get some wilson mags at 15.00 ea and call it a day....

good choice in shotguns by the way COLD... I run a benelli supernova tactical and will swear by it... everyone that touches it falls in love... it must be the comfortech stoch with the pistol grip.... I took the liberty of slipping a hogue handall grip over the stock one... the finger grooves give me extra security with my grip.... may want to try that on your m2

I have an old first gen nova 12 ga I use for turkey hunting/loaning out on hunts and I agree, its tops.

Benelli is the apex of 12 ga shotguns I feel at the moment.

I've had good luck with wilsons over the past 8-9 years. I've been using the 47dc (low pro steel floor plate) and in the past year picked up some of the ETMs. I like the 47dc better, the ETM doesn't seem as nice.

Of course, shooting plates with them, I've never had an issue with either. And unlike the other plate shooters, I shoot full power (if not +P) loads.

I've also had good luck with colt factory mags. The stock kimbers are pure crap. I threw mine out without ever shooting it. My buddy scott's kimber refused to feed reliably from his factory kimber mag, and my dad's eclipse II was fine shooting hardball with a kimber mag, but fell apart with hollow points (would jam dropping the slide on a full mag).

I have no experience with mccormick, wolff, or other mags so I can't comment on them. I have talked to dudes that like mccormicks, so I might be willing to buy a few to experiment with down the road.

Couldnt agree more...

1911 mags seem to be finnicky with hollow points.... in some cases its not entirely the mags fault as the feed ramp has a space between it and the barrel throat.... I put an 18.5# wolff spring... it had a 14# in there and it was nice and smooth but I feared it may not have enough oompf to reliably cyle the hps... the 18.5# is a bit tight but not for long...

I wouldnt even screw around with kimber mags(sorry kimber guys) or really any of aftermarket ones for that matter... Wilson is gtg
