At one time, Texas A&M developed a swine specific poison. It only killed pigs. Some Gov't bureaucrat(s?) nixed it for some reason.
Now, LSU has developed another swine specific toxin. We'll see how far this one goes!

Point being, us 6.8mm pig hunters know the cartridge is a real pig killer! If, that's "IF", this poison works, will it kill the necessity of our beloved 6.8mm Rem SPC? 😕

That poison was warfarin I believe. It wasn't necessarily specific to hogs. If baiting just hogs yes it worked but predators and birds that would scavenge on the hogs would get risidual poisoning and kill them as well. There was some kick back so the Ag commissioner backed off of legalizing it.

From pig poison? Probably not. Its still a great hunting cartridge from what I hear (I dont hunt) and has superior CQB performance. If anything might challenge it I think its the new hybrid AR10s chambered in .308 coming out. Having the same mag capacity as a 6.8, in roughly the same weight and size rifle will push alot of people to go that route.

Like the guy in the article said, "They invented rat poison and we still have rats!" LOL!

They may thin 'em out, but they won't get rid of them!

Highly doubt a thing like that will ever be approved. DDT is still a lesson to never be forgotten. Side effects for something like that could never be fully known and it’s not worth finding out.

I have 4 6.8spc rifles and unfortunately I have yet to make it out to hunt hogs or anything else for that matter. I keep buying ammo so I have a little stock pile. As long as people keep buying ammo and shooting I don't think the 6.8 will disappear. There was a short time when ammo was really scarce but I really haven't had any issues lately finding it. I don't reload yet but I keep all my brass and buy bullets every once and a while to stock up. Definitely not as cheap as 5.56 but not many centerfire calibers are.

Yeah before the greatest medical experiment in history I would have said positively you're right. Now I wonder... Though these Fascist Tools obviously care more about animals than even children,, so I'll go with you may be right.

My thoughts on the matter, sorcery is a word used in the Bible, the Greek root of the word is where (in English) we get the word Pharmacy: "Pharmakeia"- the use of medicine, spells, drugs, poisoning, or witchcraft. Sorcery that included drugs was normally accompanied by incantations with the intent to appeal to demonic powers using charms, amulets, etc. Many times these drugs were used to impress the patient with the mysterious working powers of the sorcerer.

Sorcery, what more could be said concerning the recent plandemic (just go onto Rumble and seek out a video called "Watch the Waters". Before you watch that one, watch "Died Suddenly") we're still reeling from globally? Big pharma doesn't profit from organic substances, they strive to mimic through chemicals, which always seem to have negative side effects. As another mentioned, look at the mess created by DDT decades ago, we nearly lost our National Symbol due to that poison. Am I dismissing the hog problem, absolutely NOT. It's a huge mess, but I'm not so sure turning big pharma loose with their sorcery is the correct answer.

The only things that may even come close to eradicating the feral hog would be sorcery and magic! LOL!

.....and I don't believe in either one!

Besides, I would absolutely hate to see the "mule foot" pig eradicated.

One of the boys who used to post on another forum I haunt (he may've posted here too) used to get a mule foot hog quite often.

We never raised hogs. Wyoming isn't really pig country. We don't have wild hogs either so this is the first I've heard of 'Mulefoots'. Had to 'Googlefoo' 'em.

Appears they're a endangered breed and less than 1000 purebreds are registered in America, and they are an American heritage breed 🤔

Apparently there's a fair population of them mixing it up in Texas. Probably well "mutted" by now.

Research at USDA is ongoing looking for a pig specific poison or a poison that's not species-specific but can be used in combination with a pig-specific trap. They'll figure it out eventually. However, the scale at which the method would have to be applied to eradicate feral pigs in their whole range in the USA is likely prohibitive. Could work in a place like NH where the pigs are localized and geographically isolated from other populations. Also, there are enough private landowners making money on pig hunting and would decline eradication on their land that pigs would survive there and act as source populations.

@Joonyer

Pretty much! I personally don't think eradication will happen

You and I don't know the same bunch of landowners! LOL! 😉
Everybody I know would GLADLY eradicate them!
YMMV!

P.S. - a guy I knew trapped a pig of about 30 pounds. Decided he'd fatten her up for 4th of July. Three months later he had a scrawny pig and a $75 feed bill! LOL!

That was my thought as well. I just can't imagine this getting off the ground. I mean, the idea that NOTHING else would touch the baits except a hog? They think they have cracked the code in their controlled tests, but hungry animals in nature will eat whatever. It's simply not true to say that this only targets hogs. Hogs just have a preference for it.

Also, what do you do with a few hundred thousand pig carcasses that can't even feed the local wildlife? Cured from the inside out! I guess they would already be ham if you cooked them up.

It goes beyond one animal eating something and then dying or being sterile. Those chemicals don’t disappear. America just witnessed an event that was caused by individuals in the scientific community who were either unqualified for their positions or who blatantly chose to ignore actual science and were weak minded, and you all saw the results. The real biologist and scientists know what would happen with the bait scenario. It’s not going to happen.

Not bragging here, but just providing info to support what I’m saying. I have a bachelor’s in Biology, Master’s in Herpetology, Master’s in Cell Biology, Master’s in Mammalian Tissue & Cellar Biology, Master’s in Biotechnology, was head of a human tissue and cellular biotechnology lab for two years and have been running a feral hog eradication company since 2009.
