Does anyone hunt with an eotech? If so and have "scored", what range would you estimate? I have a leupold rifleman, than I can hunt with, but I really like the eye relief of an eotech. I've been looking at magnifiers, but they are crazy expensive. A vendor had some knock offs at the gun show this weekend. He said they were made by the same people that made eotechs and aimpoints but couldn't put a brand on them because of patents. Said they were made in the same factories. I have never had a aimpoint, or eotech magnifer to compare. 4X would put me in the 100 yard range wouldn't it? At the range I can group pretty good with my eotech at 100 yards.

Eotech

Cabelas has a package eotech and 3x for $900. I just sighted mine in last weekend and it is no problem to shoot nice groups at 100 yards, I have not had a chance to use it hunting yet, 2 weeks from now I plan on using it to bear hunt. The 3x does stick out a little past the charging handle on my flat top with the 511 installed all the way forward. They have a new one out that uses the cr123, I beleive it's the smallest one you can get. As far as using it in the rain, cold or snow I don't yet have any experiance to report.

I have used an Eotech in every weather condition and situation imaginable. I have owned five. They might fog up just a bit on a rainy morning when the temperature rises suddenly and it is 101% humidity. Otherwise, they alwys seem to be clear, even when its all out raining (though I havent seen THAT in about 2 years!!!!
).

Only one unit has ever had an issue. Yes, it was a 512... D1, and the battery contact became corroded ( I live in tropical south Texas.) I sent it back to Eotech/ L3 and they literally fixed and shipped it back to me for nothing , despite it being 4 years old!

I cannot therefore, complain. My life does not depend upon the reticle, but for hunting and use with NVD's they are fantastic sights as far as quick target acquisition.. Aimpoints are most definitely as good, and the battery life is 10X better, but the FOV is narrower, and the body housing obstruction in a PVS - 14 is a little more obtrusive to me.

I use the Primary Arms 3X magnifiers. They are Chinese, but I cannot in good conscience, see spending $500 on a 3X magnifier, when I only have it on the rifle 15% of the time I use it. I would rather use that money on reloading components or NV gear.

Fabulous

HTR, u'r fantastic. This is what I wanted to hear. I just can't see spending that type of money on a magnifier that doesn't magnify more than 3x or 4x. Now where do you get those chinese magnifiers from ?

I used my eotech and HTR's mgnifier to smack a pig in the neck at 160 yards down at his plce..... I am now running an eotech and a magnifier on my 16 inch rig and plan on using it for hunting if I get a chance to this fall.

You should have no problem with a red dot out to 200 yards, even without a magnifier, for deer and hogs. Adding a magnifier will make it even easier.

200 yards??? I can hit a man sized target at 100 yards at the county indoor range, but 200?? I'm 47, you guys must be much younger than me, and have excellent eyesight. I did order a magnifier today. Hopefully it will be in this week. I'll see if that doesn't set me up better. Our family land, (not mine) doesn't have a clear row 200 yards long.

Where is the group therapy for this mental problem I'm starting to get with craving 6.8 stuff?

its the one kerry posted a link to.

I bought the aimpoint 3x one with the larue mount, I was hitting half sized IPSC steel targets with it off a bipod at 204 yards laser range finder confirmed with no issues. the only thing that sucks is with a 1 moa dot the 3x makes it 3moa and of course at 200 yards your dot is covering 6 inches of target. it will get the job done but for precise work I like cross hairs, but I am in your situation I cant see more then 200 yards anywhere I hunt so im not to worried about it.

I'm 41 and I couldn't see that well at 21.

Seriously, I wasn't ever going to get an AR, now I have one upper on order and another I have to pay for from a fellow forumite!

Kip. Just for clarity (just a little pun intended), if you use corrective lenses for long distance seeing, you should wear them when you use the EOTech. Since it is a halographic sight, you see the dot just as if it was floating 50 yards out in front of you. I've also noticed that I get the sharpest dot at the lowest brightness setting which I can see in the given light condition.

Had an Eo, and it worked just fine until I bought a rifle that had an Aimpoint that was magified by 2 with a 2 moa dot. I really like that set-up, just enough magification and years of battery life. My Aimpoint is the CompC3 2x2, it's still has the original battery running 3-4 years later, simply amazing.

I have an EOTech and Aimpoint but haven't' done any serious hunting with either yet... I have shot a few semi-close range prairie dogs, etc. I've also done some practical shooting and love both... Personally, the Aimpoint is better for my eyes but both are great sights. (I'm in the near-sighted 40-50y.o. club that needs new glasses, things don't focus as fast as they used to, etc. )

I will say the zero parallax/dot on target, using both eyes and "looking through" the sights are different concepts, but make target acquisition very quick/easy once you figure it out... They really do make life easier and they do shoot where the dot is.

With that said, I still like magnification on my hunting rifles. (Sadly, I think I also need it now...)

Babirl, a lot of us are entering the over the hill club, lol. Heck I'm damn near handicapped at 48, near sighted and have had cataracts removed from both eyes already. Actually I see better now than I did 5 years ago, and really do enjoy my slight magnified Aimpoint.

November 2004, I bagged a walking doe at ~120yds with my AR. It's topped by a Bushnell Holosight (the commercial, non-armored version of the EOtech)

That is wrong on the magnification. A 1 moa dot is still a 1 moa dot and you would be covering 2" of target at 200 yards at any magnification because it magnifies the dot and the target. The dot does not change in relation to the target.

your correct I got my first focal plane and the normal scope configurations switched. either way the dot looks huge on a half sized IPSC target at 200 meters.

The size doesn't technically change but the dot or cross hairs do appear larger to the shooter.
