how do guests get in here

whenever i look to see who is online i see guests but yet I have to log on to view the forum, how does that happen?

When I first found this forum I was Googling something, and a thread in here was a hit for the information I was searching for... When I clicked on it, it brought me in, and at the bottom it showed 1 guest as the only person looking at it, so I figured it was me... :?:

That's never happened to me. I always got the log in screen and a note that I was unauthorized to view the material.
