Took my new rock river 6.8 out today I ordered it with a hogue aluminum free float tube. The thing gets very hot after about 100 rounds. Does anyone make or can anyone suggest some sort of wrap around to put over it.

good to know it gets hit, I have a standard metal free float tube on my 5.56 Sabre
it gets too hot to touch

seen people wrap paracord around them, never tried it myself though

That's a good question. I would think you'd want the heat to dissipate instead of insulating the tube and holding the heat in. Shooting gloves may help.

How about adding a YHM railed forend thats vented, affordable, and reliable? Then sell off the Hogue to someone to offset the difference?

I have a carbon tube on one and a standard al freefloat tube on the other
the carbon gets warm but not hot, though I haven't put as many rounds as quickly through it (6.8 vs 5.56)

I have one of the Troy Extremes coming for my new 6.8 upper and assuming I like it may get one for my 5.56 as well as it gets more extended shooting sessions through it

I had a PRI carbon fiber tube on one of my AR's and can tell you that they do get HOT if you leave them out in the sun for a while! They do have cooling vents in the tube to dissipate barrel heat unlike the Hogue or Bushmaster Vmatch tubes.
