I had enough of my Stag failing to feed the 90 grain HPs and the 100 grain Rems. So I went nuts the other night and made some M4 style feed ramps. Plus I de-burred everything else and polished the crap of of everything.

I took it out today and intentionally loaded up some 90 grain sierras much shorter (2.195 COL) than the riffle used to like and ran them through with no problems. Then I did the same for the 100 grain Remingtons. They sailed through without a hitch

I have some PRI mags coming as well to replace the 6 C-mags. I am sure part of my problem was the C-mags as well.

The new feed ramps seem to have helped with the first and last round flyers. Although they are still there, they are much closwer to the main group now.

Agreed, everyone should know that M4 feed ramps are needed for reliable feeding of all rounds....

I spoke with one of the guys from STAG recently about it and they didn't want to hear it.

When I called up I asked them if they had any plans on switching to the M4 Feedramps and the guys said that they had tested their uppers and they had no feeding issues with the rifle ramps. I then told them that my 1st SPC upper had rifle ramps and I had feeding issues until I filed the ramps in myself. I also told them about the guys here having feeding issues with the Sierra 90 Gr. bullets and again, the guy said that they had tested their uppers and they had no issues. I then hung up as I didn't want to waste any more of my time.

Well, when you drop a round in the chamber to test fire it, it's gonna work, right?

+1 Should have explained that hand loading doesn't count as testing. I am glad I cancelled two orders with Stag on parts.

a guy I work with just got one despite me telling him to order an Extreme from Constructor
he went to a local shop and bought 2 STAG uppers, a 223 and a 6.8

I forwarded him the info that the 6.8 needs M4 ramps cut in
I have never done it but am very good with small tools and dremel tools having worked on bikes, guns and guitars doing mods for a long time...

So I have a stag 5.56 upper that should be here any day now. Is there anything I can or should do to fix this problem? Hopefully it isn't as big of a problem with the 5.56.
YOu should be fine with the 5.56.

What Paulosantos said.

The 6.8 is obviously a wider cartridge and that changes the geometry of the cartridge's feeding where the bullet tip could impact the receiver wall under the standard rifle ramp. With the M4 feed ramps this issue is taken care of.

The Stag issue is ridiculous because Stag's parent company CMT produces M4 uppers, and M4 barrel extensions. Why doesn't Stag use their own products especially if there isn't much cost difference?

Stag's products are good, except their 6.8 uppers really need M4 feedramps.

I was slow feeding the various rounds to see how they impacted in different areas as they headed into the chamber.

I was interesting to see how different the cartridges acted in a full magazine, half magazine or only a few rounds. The variations in mag spring pressure really change where the tip of the bullet wants to point. As a result, my Alaska style M4 ramps kept getting wider and a little longer than I have seen on 5.56mm rifles. So they are really 6.8 ramps........But it works.

So far I have smoothly loaded.
90 gr Sierra HP
100 grain Rem Soft Point
110 gr Hornady HP
110 grain Nosler AccuB
110 grain Barnes BTHP
110 grain old Sierra's
130 grain Sierra soft points

If I still had some more 150 grain bullets I would try those again.

When I fired 30 rounds of 90 grain Sierras in semi rapid aimed fire, all the brass ended up in an area about 3 inches across. (snow) You could have caught them all in a butter tub...

I just need to figure out how to post pics here...

1st post here. Hi everyone.

I have a keyhole marked (cerro forge I believe) stripped upper with M4 ramps cut into it, and just ordered a CMMG (16", midlength, chrome chamber/bore) 6.8 barrel with M4 barrel extension. Should I be ok with the feed-ramp issue I keep reading about with the 6.8s, or am I going to need to cut deeper?

How do people like the CMMG barrels in general?

Thanks.

That's what you want. M4 barrel extension on the barrel and the M4 upper receiver.

The CMMG barrels are good because they have the SPCII CHamber.
