I saw the ads to go to private lands and guided hunts but not my thing.

Congrats and welcome @paladin707. In the same boat in central NC regarding wanting to go on my own locally.

I'm a member on a couple of NC boards and there is some discussion about feral hog populations on public game lands and just a little information on NC's wildlife websites run by the state. I'd suggest you search for similar forums and boards in TN as there is some information that will help you narrow your search some.

If memory serves, one forum member (on the NC boards) even posted on YouTube about scouting some of NC's game lands and to my surprise he found some a lot closer to my location than I thought they would be. May want to see if you can find some similar folks in TN.

Wish I had more to offer, but that's about it. All the best with your search and eventually your hunts. Kinda envy folks from TX and FL, but then I think of the h*ll and destruction those dang things cause. There's always a catch.

All the best.

ETA, unfortunately, seems like most folks keep locations quiet. Understand to some extent...I don't like being around others I don't know swinging smoke poles. I don't need any extra ventilation.

In Georgia on public land, Wildlife Management Areas, etc., you can only hunt hogs when there is a game animal in season and only use weapons that are appropriate and legal for that game. So if it's deer season you can only use archery equipment during the archers or firearms during gun season, primitive weapons and modern. During small game season you can only use small arms, archery, etc.., appropriate for the game. If there is no game open season on public land then no hog hunting.

On private land you're good to go.

I say all this to say check the state game laws first.

Same in NC as for open seasons on game lands. Also hunting time restrictions just like regular game animals just no specific season on "feral" or "nuisance" animals like feral hogs. Not sure you are relegated to "small arms" during small game season. Will have to look closer at that. Thanks @jawjaboy for making me think a bit more on this before heading out.

Most hunting here is on managed areas by the TWRA, applications for the draw go out in June I think. Tellico is one east of Chattanooga and Catoosa is up around Crossville. Those were the only 2 places in TN that had hogs years ago but no telling where they have expanded to now.
