Hi everybody, I'm having problems in adjusting the headspace. I measured the headspace and it supposted to be 1.356, I just can get it to work with the die. I'm turning the die down to go from 1.360 t0 1.356 right? I have the Hornady L&N press. I'm using frankford arsenal caliper with the headspace from Hornady (B). Am I doing something wrong? Is there any tricks for doing this? Am I measuring wrong? You help will be much appreciated.

This is what you do:

1. Take a couple of fired pieces of brass and measure them. Let's say your lowest one is 1.356".
2. Screw the sizing die down until it touches the plate with the arm raised. This will put you in the ballpark.
3. Lube the brass and re-size 1 piece of brass and measure it. If the reading isn't approximately 1.351", turn the die down 1/8th turn and repeat until it is where you want it to be.

that is the way to do for sure. But you are going the correct way scfrewing it down. When you say youa re having an issue what is it? If you keep screwing it down you will eventually get a size that is smaller than what it was before sizing. If the die is high the headspace will actually increase from being sized. The brass has to go somewhere and if the die is not touching the shoudler when its fuled seated then the case will graow as the die squeezes the sides. This is why the neck grows when you fully size a case. tEH brass has to flow somewhere. Another thing to consdier if becasue of this if you take a case and size it to where it reads the same headspace as it did after beign fired before sizing then the shoudler was actually set back. Same reason as before. If the shoudler had not been touched then the headspace would have increased as it grew from being squeezed. It helpd to vizualize what is happening in the die. HWat I wish they made was a micro meter FL sizing die. It woudl be much better than trying to get the die just right with no referance points. Wehn y9ou are trying to set your headpeace to a very precise point its can be a PITA where a miro meter woudl make it easy as could be. It woudl take a sleeve design to do and woudl likely have to be fatter making removing hte bushing in the press necessary. But I woudl be willing to setup a dedicated single stage press for it.

Thank you Tim for your advised. I think the issue I have is with the caliper. Every time I measure the same cartridge, I get a different numbers for example 1.356, 1.354, 1.358, etc. I'm following Paulo directions but I just can keep it in consistence, and I was was wondering if I was measuring wrong or something else.
