H will any DPMS style barrel work with this kit? I am thinking of using a longer BHW 308 barrel on one of these kits without a barrel if it will work. I would use a 308 barrel from you if they were available. But would like a 24" 308 barrel on a Nextgen. Do you know if their 308 barrel will work? Or if I have any other options?

I had similar questions, just hadn't gotten around to asking. Is any competent AR10 barrel maker able to install the extension on a barrel?

No, A DPMS barrel is 1.125" diameter. The NG is 1.000. All barrels will need to be custom made using the extension supplied with the kit.

Harrison, Since you're offering the "non-barrel" NextGen kit, does that mean that you won't be offering any 18" .308 barrels in the near future, if ever ?

I am pretty darn excited about this kit I just got off the phone with Krieger and they will not make a barrel using the extension provided in it. I was told Accuracy Systems uses a lot of Krieger blanks and I have left a message hoping to hear back from them. I will update once I hear from them. If I can find someone willing to do the work I may buy more than one kit as I would not mind doing a cat or 2 off this kit either.

I know we are getting top quality product at a fantastic price from Harrison whatever the purchase. Now that we can get the Nextgen kit and add a barrel of our choosing I am trying to find someone to make me a barrel I want to use in it other than what H offers thus far. I can not say enough good things about ARP as the only down side is for me I am spoiled now and look for that quality and price point and have yet to be able to find it elsewhere. Harrison seems to strive for and quite often attain excellence in what he does wether it be the steel he uses, a treatment process, rifling type or just pushing the envelope wildcat wise. I have 14 ARP barreled AR's now and see no reason to shop elsewhere unless I have to. I know compared to what I get from H's offerings I will have to pay up big time especially for custom work and set up time but when I have so many of his barrels that shoot so well I really want to keep that accuracy, especially if I have to pay more to get it. I told Mike at Krieger of the cost of H's barrels and the accuracy I was getting out of them as well as the steel used, rifling type, treatment and rockwell hardness, I think it really got his attention as all he said was wow.

Well Accuracy Systems in Colorado will pretty much make any barrel you want for the Nextgen kit. Send them an extension and bolt and they will go to town. Using their blank and 5R button rifling it would be about $650.00 for threaded muzzle. A Kreiger blank would ad about $180.00. Send them gas block for fitment also if you like. I knew it would be pricey but they will work with us and are recommended by Kreiger and seem to have good reviews. first price would be button rifled and they send it out for that then chamber and contour. Of course the Krieger could be 5R as well cut rifling done by Kreiger.

Lets look around a bit before you go there. I've had a few experiences with their stuff

Maybe x-caliber? what do you think H?

they are doing a very good job with the 7mm Valkyrie barrels
That is what I was thinking since they already have experience with the extensions. Satern would be another good one to check with, they make some of the best Grendel barrels.

so what is everyone thinking? 7-08, 338, 358?...for overall hunting and availability of loaded ammo, brass, and bullets I'd bet that a 7-08 will sell better than the 260 will but I think a 308 in 18" with rifle gas will be the hot ticket for the long run (that's what I would have opted for, but a 16" gets me going for now)....what lengths are people looking into? 18" ,20" ? longer than that and I think you'll be back up to a heavy platform ....just my 2 cents though

X-caliber will make a 358 Win AR10 barrel, I'm sure you could get them to do a Nextgen barrel in that. I'm considering it, a nice lightweight 358 AR10 would be pretty useful.

To keep them out of the wrong hands I may ask everyone to call in before they can place an order.

I'll call you Monday H. Think I will wait a while, just bought a NV scope instead. Well I thought I bought one only to find out it is not lawful to own IR scopes in the Peoples Republic of Commiefornia and Optics Planet canceled my order.
