I know the CZ P-01 has a polymer guide rod, and I read where Cold has a Titanium in his pistol for three gun. Is there any advantages or disavantages to "upgrading" the guide rods in pistols? Don't they merely hold the spring in place, hence the name? As always, thanks in advance!

The last couple of Beretta 92s I've picked up had plastic guide rods too. Personally I don't feel comfortable with plastic "inards". I think titanium would be preferable for being light weight (all be it the weight difference is negligible compared to over all weight) but definitely a strength advantage.

My XD came with the stock gr which is metal but it is very light. I passed up the steel "fat" guide rod that is 3x heavier in favor for a tungsten guide rod which is 6x heavier than stock. Most of the time you replace the spring with a heavier or lighter one depending. It reduces muzzle flip and felt recoil improving follow up shots. I have notice the decrease in climb from shot to shot from the added weight. I also have a light laser combo which adds more weight too.
I can appreciate the difference it makes.
